I'm definitely not ever going to go out of my way to make sure I am further than 50 or 75 yds away from another boat when I drive by

What if you were bass fishing an open water hump and got buzzed by a cat fishing guide at 75 yards out? I bet you would be upset.

You can't expect everyone to yield to what you think is a fair distance of your fishing! This might be the dumbest thing I've ever seen typed on the Internet. I guess you shouldn't have to be "fair" if you enter at tournament? Heck, you sign an entry form saying you agree not to fish within so many feet of another participant. What if In a hurry to fish where you are going? I'm not in a tournament, why not just drive all over you? Comes down to morals, I'm wasting bandwidth here.....u just don't get it

I think the bigger problem is NOT who got how close to whom and how fast they were going, but, the common courtesy we should all have for other fisherman. The habitats of the different species overlap, and so will the "hunting grounds" and the paths of us fishermen. Can't we all just get along ??? How do you figure? I would prefer 75mph at 75 yards than 25mph at 75 yards. I have no problem with given people their space and it should be expected, but 300 yards. That might work if it was just you and one other person on the lake.

You can't expect everyone to yield to what you think is a fair distance of your fishing..bass fisherman are in a hurry to go catch fish themselves. You are fishing open water , and even though YOU are fishing, you should understand that you are in that bass boats way as well! Thanks for sharing that fish are spooked by other boats, but if I am fishing a tournament and trying to get to a spot fast and You are in my way, I am not going to do a 300 yard loop around you. That's the point i think you are missing sir! Its not all about you! So if I'm reading this right...it's all about you!

The original post was about understanding a boaters distance ie bass boats on mainlake .Then it became about spooking fish which is about distance . Now it's not about distance? 300 yards..you don't get it Lakeguide! You will get buzzed by majority of people whether you like it or not! That's an unrealistic request and the dumbest comment I have ever heard!

Tournament fishermen definitely have the right of way.
I would think that anyone whos paid their launch fee, bought gas, spent their hard earned money to go fish has an equal right of way on a public lake. I hear what you are saying but the recreational fisherman is what supports the sport in masses. In a perfect world, everyone is courteous, but I digress. You want perfect world, you better have a ton of cash to build your own lake, with your own rules. No different than a clown that cuts me off in traffic, slow driving in left lane, et al. Yes, I believe its disrespectful. I can stick my ranch hand bumper to them and run them off the road or take a breath and get over it. I'm sure that a race car driver doesn't feel like they are more entitled to the road than I am. If so, perhaps they need to get over themselves. Just imagine a world where the worst thing we have to deal with is a discourteous person on the water. Tight lines.

No it's about understanding that when you are fishing mainlake you shouldnt expect bass boats to yield 300 yards to you!

I think 300 yards is a little unrealistic, but 50 yards is way dam too close - and I get buzzed at fifty every weekend. I won't back off my slab casts anymore. I m a big 'ol boy

In the spring its other fishermen that somtimes cross the line of being curtious . Once it warms up its plesure boaters and jet fleas . But really 200 yds is curtious IMO.

I have CC boats all the time come by 30-50 yards of me while I am fishing off shore for bass and they throw off huge wakes, because most are lugging and plowing up tons of water. I guess it goes both ways.
And someone running into Tall Man wit you sitting near the mouth , there isn't a 50 yard wide path must less a 300 yard one.
I don't "buzz" striper guys and I'm sure most that do are unaware that they are disturbing your fish.
Just one question, you're the only person that's ever came on here and complained about this that I've seen , does that mean everyone else doesn't stop catching as other pass within 1/4 mile of them ??? Doug R. you can see by all the post that by posting some will never give a rats [censored] about anyone but themselves. Maybe thats why Salsa has never posted before. This is the first winter that I have ever tried dead sticking,I thought it was nuts but all I'll say is this.. 1. Thumping works and it does keep the fish under the boat 2. Boats blowing by do run the fish off when coming by close, I have witnessed it within a 100 yards more than once 3. I have been accused of screwing up schooling fish and didn't like it, so I try to make myself aware of others. 4. There are a few guides that have trolled by me sitting on a marker this past summer within 30 yards so it goes both ways 5. what's the difference between a hydrowave and thumping with a stick or rubber hammer?? I guess those reading the post will have to make up their own minds, some will consider more than just themselves and some will just keep on only considering themselves. Glad for the post.

If before reading this you had no idea that running close to other boats in open water spooked fish and NOW reading this REALIZED it does yet continue doing it now knowing what it does then: I would say you are just a bit inconsiderate.
