I'm trying to figure out where to start when planning a trip to the bay. I've been wade fishing a couple times in East Matagorda Bay out of a friends boat but that's about all I know. I'd like to go somewhere that I can camp for the weekend that access to the bay. I'd also like tips on what to take with me. I'll hang up and listen..

Try Aransas Pass on hwy 361. Lighthouse lakes/ Brown N Roots. You can camp along the shore. Shrimp. Gulp, Topwaters and slow sinkers.

Hope for some good info. I've never bay fished, I want to get into some reds. When are you planning on going?

Reds, Trout and Drum are starting to come back in. Water has been low but is starting to return. Fish the guts along the shrimp boat channel on the north side of LHL, When it gets warmer fish the mud as it holds heat and the reds like that. What ever I throw I also use a piece of fishbites. On the south side of 361 you can fish the sailboat channel and the cuts there also. You might even try Estes Flats. It is on hwy 35 business. Good Luck

I think a fun overnight trip would be to launch at the Fishing Center in Port O'Conner, fish/paddle all day to Pringle Lake, camp, and then fish/paddle back the next day.

As far as tackle I would take fish bites, Gulp alive shrimp(new penny and new penny chartreuse are my fave), saltwater jig heads, popping corks, 4/0-6/0 circle hooks, good swivels, some egg sinkers, leader for the toothy fish, some spooks and spook jr's, maybie a badankadonk, and some swim baits in loud colors. I am sure I am missing a few things but thats about what I would take. Bass rods work fine as long as you rinse and clean them really good.

GISP, Galveston Island State Park is an awesome place to bay fish with your kayak, it has marsh areas, deep cuts and tons of fish. Its one of our favorite places. We have had great success using artificials there, swimming shad, gold spoons and flukes fished weedless.

GISP also has decent camping; washrooms; showers; fish cleaning station. Better call ahead to be sure they have space. Rich

Aggie Yak, I'm not sure when I'll go. I'm going this weekend with a friend who has a boat. Probably sometime after spring break I want to head to the coast or kayak down the Brazos below PK.

Went to Port A today via 361 and yesterdays 63 mph winds blew a lot of water out again. Saw some yaks out fishing but really shallow in LHL and the area.
