Hi Guys!
I just wanted know what is the legal size of knife that you can use while fishing?
Can you actually carry it by your belt or does it needs to be concealed?
Thanks

As said earlier 5 1/2" is the maximum legal length but I've never heard of anyone being busted for carrying a knife larger than that to and from fishing or hunting. Now if you're out at 2:00 AM carrying around a 8" filet knife or a 10" Bowie all bets are off.

I have been checked by a game carrying a machete fishing a river, all good, talked a few minutes and he never said a word. Depends on where you are and your purpose. Fishing or hunting OK, Saturday night on lower Greenville Ave? Problem. Most fillet knives are at least 6".

I'm going to say +1 on this.^^^^^ Never even blink when your out on the water or in the woods. And if I read the penal code correctly concealed vs. open carry isn't even considered.

Being a Police Officer, I can assure you, that if a person is hunting or fishing and they have a knife on his or her person with a blade longer that 51/2 inches, the only reason that person will go to jail is if they have or they are about to use the knife to commit a crime, or the knife is a switch black, butterfly knife, sword machete, or spring loaded....

Five and one half inches or less in length and you will be fine-
Make sure it is NOT-- spring loaded, push button style, butter fly style flip blades ..switch blade style knife or you may see the inside of a jail and ruin your day.
simple rule to measure--lay the blade accross your open hand palm.If the blade is longer than your open hand palm..I would not carry it..

If u are fishing within a municipal corporate limit u better stay at or under 5 1/2". While the game warden may not care, the local police may arrest u.
