Hi Guys!
I just wanted know what is the legal size of knife that you can use while fishing?
Can you actually carry it by your belt or does it needs to be concealed?
Thanks

Legal size is under 5 amd 1/2 inches with a single sided blade. However, I do carry a double edge dive knife when Im on my kayak out on the Frio or remote sections of the Upper Guadalupe. Most would consider it illegal however the following clearly puts me in a legal act the entire time I carry it from traveling to the act of fishing.
Texas - Health, Safety & Morals - 46.02. Unlawful carrying weapons. (a) A person commits an offense if intentionally, knowingly , or recklessly carries on or about his person a handgun, illegal knife, or club. [Exceptions: official; actor was own premises; was traveling; engaged in lawful hunting, fishing, or other sporting activity; security guard]. - 46.01. Definitions. (1) "Club"... includes... (D) Tomahawk... (6) "Illegal knife" means a: (A) knife with a blade over five and one-half inches; (B) hand instrument designed to cut or stab another by being thrown; (C) dagger, including but not limited to a dirk, stiletto, and poniard; (D) sword; or (E) spear. (7) "Knife" means any bladed hand instrument that is capable of inflicting serious bodily injury or death by cutting or stabbing a person with the instrument.
Good luck but remember always double check laws for yourself this is a forum and I or anyone else on here should never be considered the anwser when it comes to legal questions.

You can carry any size of knife you want to when you are fishing. No switchblades...no bowie knifes (sharpened on both sides). The key is....while fishing (or hunting)...else the 5.5" max is in effect.

a bowie knife is NOT sharpened on both sides.
Your thinking Boot knife or Dagger.
A bowie would be longer than 5 1/2", heavy blade and typically a clip point
IronTX, you can actually walk around Texas with "scabbard" knife, which would be your typical fixed blade knife, worn on your belt. As long as it's not over 5 1/2". For fishing, lots of guys have fillet knives on board which many or over 5 1/2"

I guess I am wrong about the bowie knife...but I know filet knifes are okay. I have been stopped by many game wardens and none of them ever said anything about my filet knife...or bait knife as I would call it.

As I recall you can legally carry a pistol while on the water without a CHL. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

You are correct. Direct from the Texas Penal Code:
Sec. 46.02. UNLAWFUL CARRYING WEAPONS. (a) A person commits an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries on or about his or her person a handgun, illegal knife, or club if the person is not:(1) on the person's own premises or premises under the person's control; or(2) inside of or directly en route to a motor vehicle or watercraft that is owned by the person or under the person's control.(a-1) A person commits an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries on or about his or her person a handgun in a motor vehicle or watercraft that is owned by the person or under the person's control at any time in which:(1) the handgun is in plain view; or(2) the person is:(A) engaged in criminal activity, other than a Class C misdemeanor that is a violation of a law or ordinance regulating traffic or boating;(B) prohibited by law from possessing a firearm; or(C) a member of a criminal street gang, as defined by Section 71.01.
