Well i took my yak to a small pond off of 820 across from the Texas mastercraft ski lake. I was doing pretty good having fun tossing a jig around some lay downs. Then i decided to stand up... And that was all good too. No problems didn't unbalance at all. Then i sat down and wasn't paying attention sat too far to one side of the seat and leaned a bit to the side... And next thing i know Im rolling and then swimming pulling my yak. A fisherman on shore tossed me a line and pulled me in. I stood up, rolled my yak back over gathered my stuff up And pulled my yak up on the bank. Reorganized my gear. Went to my truck, dried myself off pulled on my spare clothes and shoes and went back to it. I didn't lose a single thing. My ff is still working great. It was a heck of an experience. Would've preferred to do it in the summer but oh well. Water temp was about 53 degrees. Glad for the experience though and i knew what to do and did everything fine.

How did it feel Bass Cowboy, just curious as I've only dipped in water in the 80's. Did you have waders? Were you hyperventilating? Did you scream like a little girl? Just wondering. Knowing how it felt might help others know what to expect in those temps.

No i wasn't screaming or hyperventilating. i was calm. didn't even let my head go under. i was wearing standard fishing pants a long sleeve shirt and my new balances. as soon as i felt it start to go i rolled a little so i would end up under it. i let go of everything: paddle, rod etc. and i grabbed the carry handle, let my pfd help support me and swam up to shore. about 10 feet out that guy i talked about tossed me a line and pulled me in. i got to shore stood up, soaking and took inventory, flipped my boat back over stowed all my gear properly chased down my dip can before it floated away. pulled the yak up on shore walked to my truck, and changed. i had a towel t shirt, pants boxers a hoodie and boots. forgot socks and that kinda sucked. i got changed went back and fished for about 3 hours. didn't catch anything though.

What do they say? If you get bucked off get right back on At least you did not really turtle, just sat down skew, otherwise you would have been in total control. Mark it down to experience

I have a question about this... How did you not loose your gear in your crate?
I am new to kayaking, havent even got my kayak wet yet and have been planning out how I want to set it up and have thought about this a few times. Did you bungee the crate to the kayak and then run bungees over the top of the crate to keep everything inside? What about rods that are just sitting in a rod holder?
I am not worried about going over, I know it will happen sooner or later but I dont want to loose all my gear when it happens.

Not sure of his crate, but some guys have a lid or cover of some sort to keep contents from coming out of the crate. I have leashes for my rods and I made a leash for my paddle. You can find leashes on e-bay pretty cheap. I have a question about this... How did you not loose your gear in your crate?

I am not worried about going over, I know it will happen sooner or later but I dont want to loose all my gear when it happens. Well i personally don't typically use a crate. I have one with a lid on it but i don't normally use it. Everything in my yak that doesn't float is tethered to my yak. All of my tackle boxes float, my worm binder floats. I have rod floats on all of my rods and i have a hand braided paddle leash for my paddle. I have a tray built to hold my fish finder and battery and all that. I have bungees in the front of my boat to hold the tray in place. It took less than 5 minutes to reorganize and get my boat ready to go back out. Its going to take you a while of getting out there in your yak before you will have everything situated like you want it, you will most likely loose something, even something small before you realize all the little things you've got to do to be ready.
