Depends on rod length, size of reel and amount of line, the weight you are throwing, and your ability.
Some guys can throw a country mile and others cannot.

The problem is I'm trying to spool two reels with 50lb braid so I was wondering if 150 yards on each reel with mono backing be enough braid. I don't think I can cast close to a hundred and fifty yrds. That way I could buy a 300 yrd. spool and cut it in half. Or should I get a 400 yrd. spool.

I wouldn't put no less than 200yds. On em! You get frays and nicks the same as mono. I have recently gone back to mono on most of my poles cause I drift a lot more now than ever. And let me tell ya 60# braid isn't easy to break off and gives nasty cuts too even with a mono leader! Im not sure about the mono backing thing I always just spooled the braid and never had any problems. Now I will tell you at first I had the tendency cause of zero stretching to pull out of there mouths a bit more. Anchor and bank yeah braid is good but drifting man o man!

With bait and usually into wind 60-80 yd is pretty good average - I split 330 yd roll of Texas Tough between 2 reels - 165 yds each. Plenty.

Put 20 cranks of mono then tie the mono to the braid using a blood knot and fill up the rest with the braid

I say full spool all the way. I don't use as much spinning gear anymore, but I can tell you line comes off a full spool much smoother and faster then a half full one. The three rods I do have power pro on have 300yds each, because if im not casting braid balloons out awesome.

+1 to what trooper said. They will cast much smother when full. And balloning can be a lot of fun
