I have a new Elite 7 HDI and it appears that it has the sonar logging function but it only has one card slot. Not much data from Lowrance but I'm assuming that it records to the SD card in real-time or maybe it stores it internally to be written to a card later. I don't feel comfortable storing it on my Navionics card. Anyone have knowledge or experience with this setup?

Im not familiar with the elite 7 but I know on the hds10, it default stores internally. Every time I get off the water I transfer any logs or screenshots from the internal hard drive to the SD card and then delete them from the internal memory. DO NOT store it on you Navionics card!!! Im not even sure if that is possible. You should be able to store logs and screenshots to the internal memory and then when you get off the water take out your Navionics and put in a regular SD card. Then do the transfer to that card.

Thanks, I'll try that this week.

OK, got a sonar log file created yesterday and it plays back on my unit but does not load and work in the Lowrance Sonar Log Viewer program. Ran it on a win7 and an XP machine, changed the file back to the old .slg format and still nothing. I have contacted Lowrance and will post if I learn anything.

It also appears that the file is written "real-time" to the card that is in the slot, so it wrote on my Navionic card. First, I don't really want to write on that card and second there is very little room on the card so the recording is short. Looks like you have to swap out the cards (elite 7 HDI only has one slot) and the thought of handling those tiny micro-sd cards out on the water does not thrill me. I have also asked Lowrance if I'm missing something and if there are other options. I'm already ticked that I had to buy a new navionics card because they changed from full size SD cards to the micros. However, I will have to admit that the new maps are very nice.

But on the bright side the unit is great for seeing whats below you. Screen is big enough to run the conventional sonar and down imaging side by side to help with the learning curve on the down imaging. I also played with the option that lets you overlay the down imaging over the conventional sonar and that seems to be a good source in open water with only humps as structure. I think the down imaging will be my primary choice when looking in structures like trees, rocks, submerged roads & bridges.

So you recorded sonar log on your Navionics card? Wow, your brave or crazy!. Seems like your supposed to lock the Nav card before putting it in the graph to keep from over writing it. Were you able to erase the sonar log from the card safely?

The MicroSD cards do not have the manual lock like the standard size SD cards. Maybe you can lock it with software. The file did not overwrite anything but I don't think I will be logging anymore sonar logs on it. If I want to make a log I will put in a blank card.
