Is this set up too light for distance? I use 20# 832 but want to get a thinner diameter line for my 9-11 ft surf rods. Anyone have any experience with this? If so, can it throw 2-4 oz sinkers without snapping?

I don't have experience with surf rods but I know 30lb braid will snap with a 7'6" ex hev rod and a spro frog. I think that weight is to heavy personally.

What brand of braid were you using? I could not break 20lb if I tried.

depending on the reel being used, i would jump up as high as 40 or 50lb braid

I use shimano 4000-5000 size reels, i definetly lose a lot of distance with those size braids and i dont catch anything that big to use braid in that pound test.

What brand of braid were you using? I could not break 20lb if I tried. it's not the brand it's the diameter of 30lb braid being the size of 8lb mono. The breaking rate may be 30lbs but when you snap it with a hard cast and heavy rod the force will break it. I Switched to 65-80lb "15lb mono diamater" power pro and never had a problem again. I so use a baitcaster and there is a lot more force compared to a spinning reel.
