I started another thread so as to not take away from the Belton postings. To catch 3 lake records in one day is a day you should never forget.

I get that you shouldn't ride people about legal fish and that is why the best method is changing the regulations. At the same time we need to work on peoples mind sets.

It amazes me that the lmb folks were able to do this and they did it long before the internet. If you posted a dd lmb and then showed the fillets I don't think they would be nearly as nice as the cat section is.

We have 3 lakes in the state with a slot and I am willing to bet that 95% of all anglers in the state don't even know. TP&W has done a poor job at promoting it. I don't know about Waco, but RC and Lew do not have any signs around the lake informing anglers. It is only 3 lakes, how much could a couple of signs be. If they really want to test this slot there has to be a great deal more in education.

If no one takes a stand on this issue it will just fall. I DO NOT believe in talking ugly or down to people who keep legal fish. I DO believe in education. Keep on educating and that is how it will bet done.

In my opinion TPWD is failing big time when it comes to the slot on lakes. When you have to look in an subtopic section in the back of the handbook to learn about it!!! I bet very few people even realize that is in the book!!!!

What's worse is when a fishing guide mentions to a Lewisville Game Warden bout' the slot and the warden didn't know bout' it.

Not good.

Bassfishing equals $$$$ catfishing unfortunately does not. Not enough anyways. Everyone here knows I was a DIE HARD bass guy before switching completely over to chasing cats. If you were to hold up a dd bass and then said you ate it they would run you off the forums. There is always a guy or two that says dont judge if ifs legal he can do what he wants, which is true. On the other hand its all about future fishing. I'll be the first to admit that I had no idea on the slots. And if it wasn't for jeb225 I wouldn't of known nor would of started the habit of letting go 10lbs + fish.
Catfish and cat fisherman are not respected as a whole which means no revenue and until that changes tpwd will not put out the effort. Just. 02

TPWD has got PLENTY of money....Tens of millions sitting in the Fund 5 waiting for the Texas Leglislature to allocate it. With a 10% excise tax on all guns and ammo next years allocation from the Feds in going to be HUGE!

It is an accounting trick the legislature uses so the can deficit spend elsewhere...like food stamps, section 8 housing, and remodling the governor's mansion. Unlike red light camera fees that are suppose to go to trauma centers, they cannot reallocate the money....so they just create a surplus reserve, borrow money, and thus they have "balanced" the budget.

Read all about this evil practice here:

Man are you right. There is plenty of our money in that fund that our license fees built up.

Thanks Brian for listing that. That is a huge road block to all outdoors men.

The issue as I understand it is making anglers aware of the slot. It seems like it could be simple as a seperate flyer handed out in addition the outdoor annual when you buy a fishing license. On it put important things like limits for all species of fish not just cats, if there are any, and on which lakes.

TP&W 's magazine March 2013 issue just came out and has an article about this topic .They state that they want to make Tx. a catfish destination as well as a bass hot spot . The article mentions different types of anglers ...meat hunters trophy hunters as well as those that just want to catch anything at all and the slot limits etc. Looks like they are very interested in creating a top notch catfisherie . The article is informative as well as exciting for our future
