Ok I've been thinking a lot about things that happen to me over my years of fishing and what I can do to help the sport and introduce more people in to bass fishing fun and competive.
It happens all the time people ask me how do you catch those or what's that or how do you rig that and so on . Most of the time I'm in a hurry and show or tell them as best and as fast as I can. I know there are many people that want to learn to bass fish and just have no one to show them but the Internet . I also hear a lot of people say I want to fish tournements but they are scared because there not good enough or there boat ain't nice enough. I believe some people just really can't fish and others just need guidance .
So now to my ? Is there a school or a club that these people can go to and get TOW and be taught proper skills and how to fish and operate a boat right ? If not my ? Is would something like this draw enough attention to be worth putting the effort into or would I just be wasting time with trying to help and keep this sport healthy and alive ?
Be honest even if its harsh I want your opinions
THANKS

Some people don't have a clue. So sure it could be a good idea.

I know exactly how you feel, and was very pleased to read your interest in this. I think it would be difficult to support, but would be a great program to start somewhere. I think fishing is alot like playing golf, either you got it or you dont. Those that dont will still show up and expect to be a fisherman when they leave. I think you would be worn out pretty fast. Great idea thanks for sharing.

I think it's a good idea with great intentions, it all comes down to the person wanting to learn though.

Join Century Bass Club and learn from some of the nicest people and knowledgeable fishermen I've met....
You do not need a boat and it is a draw setup.
There is just a twenty dollar no boater fee...cheapest guide trip I have ever taken.

I taught a fishing course as I coached for 25 years and ran 500 kids throught the program every year. This was a 9 week course for an hour each day. This brought me to the customer relations fishing trips that I have done for all those years. Some of those kids parents kept me in business in Odessa. Now that I have retired this is what I do for anyone that wants to go and learn how to fish. I do not make a dime on any of my trips. They learn to fish, get the front of the boat, learn how to drive a boat, can fish in a tournament if they so choose and I furnish the equipment for them to do this. I feel like this is a very good experience for anyone that wants to go and does not have a boat. All it cost my customers is the expense of the trip. I look at it this way. If they want to catch some good fish then they need to spend their $400 for the day and hire a guide. If they want to go for several days and get lots of fishing instructions along the way then they need to go with me. This is like anything else; you have lots of tire kickers and not very many takers. So Chad this is not something new. I have been promoting this concept for years with not much success. Sure you can pick up all the people you want to teach if you are going to give them a free ride to the lake. But when you start trying to recover expenses the fishing trip doesn't become as important to them any longer. They will wait for the free ride and just hope they learn a little something along the way. Thirty years of experience on Falcon, Amistad, Ivie (opening) and Mexico means a lot to me and I am willing to share; but I am not willing to give free rides. I believe charging only the expenses of the trips is a fair price to pay for the knowledge they will gain.

Many people want instant gratification, to be decent in fishing as in most things, you need to work at it and develop your skills as well as your instincts.
But just as in life , some people will never "get it".

Patience is not a virtue with some people. You need patience to become a good fisherman and truly enjoy it.

I've learned most of what I know from the clubs I've joined. I'm trying to get my current club to do a (Free Fish) about once every 3 months. This would be when members of the club can invite people that they interact with and show interest in the sport. Those guest would be paired with boating members and receive (lessons) as it where for free. I see it going as a tournament with no entry fee. Giving away hats or some other swag that could easily be bought from raffle overages. Of course most of the learning in our club comes from the "after fishing" camps, The guest would be included in that also. It would help promote the sport and lead to more "paying" guest fishing future tournaments, and ultimately more members. Its a win win!

Don H, I hear you load and clear and couldn't agree more. I have learned from TOW, but learning is a never ending process. A friend of mine and I are serious fisherman that unfortunately neither own a boat. We beat the banks teaching others with our limited knowledge. Most of the ponds we fish are on Ft. Hood so our target students are active duty Soldiers that we are the reason they miss work call formations. HA!
Seriously though, if you would be available to take two on your boat, would love the opportunity to pay trip expenses and share your knowledge with the troops. I've been to Falcon several times, OH Ivie, Choke to name a few, but I really need to get Fork under my belt. Maybe we could make that the destination.
"If you've quit learn'n, you might'as well quit fish'n cuz yer not catch'n as many fish as ya should be!"
