I've been told that the Morrum 3600 is not intended to be used with light lures. I had the reel serviced and cleaned by Southwest Parts & Service last fall and has been used only once since I got it back. Heck, I even paid the upcharge to get it back sooner than their normal return time. It's currently spooled with 10 lb Big Game.

1. Is throwing a 1/8 oz Texas-rigged bait considered too light?

2. I've got the cast control knob adjusted but it dosen't let out line fast enough. It never seems to make a difference on this adjustment. BTW, I had never an issue with adjusting this on any of my other Ambassadeur reels. I want it to over-run because I don't rely on the reel as I use my thumb.

I really like the feel of this solid beauty, but this problem keeps it sitting in the drawer. It's too good of a reel not to be used.

Any ideas?

Try it with heavier baits. 1/8 oz is pretty light for a Morrum

That may just be the case. However, I'm hard-headed and just can't understand why. I have other Ambassadeur 3600's and they don't have that issue. Heck, I still like to worm fish with an old Ambassadeur 4600. I don't know. hammer

Thanks

That Morrum should cast alot farther then that!! I put a good set of bearings in mine and it casts just fine! They are a great reel and it needs to be used!

I'm planning on taking it back to Southwest Parts and Service because I just know there's something wrong with it. I can't find my receipt, hopefully they can look it up in their computer. I don't want to pay for this again.

I have another Ambassadeur 3600 but it's the Tournament model. When I loosen the cast control knob the lure will fall to the ground and the line will overrun. Not on the Morrum. It will not overrun, no matter how much you loosen the knob.

It's making me crazy!!!!!

I collect, fish with, and modify Abu 1500's and 2500's (the little ones) and that 3600 Morrum should be a screaming good caster for light stuff......If it is not casting/spinning freely it could be 3 things most likely

1. warped or bent spool or slightly bent frame
2. bearings (replace with BACA bearings) ABEC 7 or better
3. copper spool shims/tension adjustment
4. A good cleaning and reassembly can sometimes fix the problem

Just some suggestions as these Morrums are similar to my reels.

Thanks.

I'm a big fan of the small round reels also. Several years ago I had Southwest Parts and Service build me a 2500c just for some light line creek fishing.

Sounds like some good experience here. I have a round Black Max 3600 and just bought a round Pro Max 1600 (isn't here yet). I also have a few low profile Shimanos, but the round Ambassadeurs just seem stouter to me. And I like the fact that Garcia continues to support their reels.

What is the general opinion of these smaller round baitcast reels? I use spinning reels to cast lightweight stuff, but really enjoy using a solid baitcast reel when I can.

I understand the 1600, 3600, 5600, etc part. Narrow to wide spools.

Do I have this right on the smaller round Abu Garcia baitcaster "quality"?
Top of the line first, on down.
