Got a couple long battery cables to use as "jumper cables" from trolling motor battery to cranking battery in case of a dead battery. Does not matter that I have a 36v system as long as I'm simply jumping from one battery to the next...right? Thanks!

No as long as you just hook up cables to a single trolling motor batteries positive and negative you are good to go

Are we sure about that? A buddy of mine tried to hook up my starting battery to one of my two batteries for my 24 volt trolling motor during a night tournament and it looked like he was welding back there. Since that time I have always disconnected the jumper wire from one of my trolling batteries before using them to jump start.

Razor, I would bet in the dark he hooked up two seperate batteries. I use cables in the event of dead cranking battery and have done this a dozen times over the years with no adverse result. The method you use is double safe....lol

That mother board on most of the newer boats cost lots of money. I would definately take the time to drop off the loop for the other two trolling motor batteries before jumping.

You should always connect your + and - jumper cables from the 1st trolling motor battery in the series, over to the + and - of the dead cranking battery. Why?.....

Because some boats have a negative bridging ground cable permanently connected and grounding their cranking battery to the 1st series wired trolling battery.

If you don't follow this, you can badly damage a good battery and be in the welding business with Razorback.

If you don't understand which series trolling motor battery is the 1st, then make sure one battery lead is temporarily disconnected before using the jumpers.

If you don't completely disconnect and change out the batteries (no jumper cables) you can risk burning out the rectifier which will leave you dead in the water. I learned this the hard way years ago.

I have tried to jump one of before and it would not do it. Had to disconect everything and connect direct to the trolling motor battery before it would go.
What was up with that. Where the jumpers too long?

I jumped mine off this past weekend with no problems. Just move my main cables over to one of the other batteries

This works great with a yamaha, they jump off easy. A mercury on the other hand is almost impossible to jump. I started carrying one of the inexpensive emergency power packs with jumpers build in and they work great.

Retirement best job ever.
