I have a GoPro Hero3 Black edition and will be learning the functionality and the how too' of editing and posting videos. Lets face it. We all like to see videos of some fish being caught or simply a cool video on the water.

Let us utilize this thread to share those how too' and videos.

I wish I had something to add to start it off but as I stated I am wanting to learn the functionality and how to edit and post so if there are any pro' out there that want to kick it off feel free.

Enjoy!! And hopefully we all will learn something.

I understand going to you tube. Been there done that. This post is meant to be a one on one interaction thread with tips/tricks and videos like we have for Humminbird/Lowrance in the General Equipment Discussion.

Regardless of the camera used the editing is part work and part art. Knowing what makes a good shot and what needs to be cut is the key in producing a better quality video. I have found that I have become much more critical when viewing videos. I now consider what I would have done differently but most often I'd just cut more for time.

I try to keep my videos informative and with a purpose behind them. If the story of the day doesn't come together on video very well I'll try to fortify it with something from the past and I have a huge library of photos to draw upon.

Too many videos just show what happened visually, so if it's not something special or unusual and no further information is known about it (without the story behind it) there is little reason to watch it.. Just because it means something to you doesn't make it good to view.

Think of it this way: Lets say You find an old photograph of your grandpa taking you fishing. No one who sees that photograph knows what you know or the story behind it. It is the same for most of the photos and video we shoot, the viewer can only see part of the story and rarely is that enough IMHO.

The Go Pro's claim to fame is it's rugged waterproof case but that comes with a price of very poor audio. To compensate for the poor audio you just about have to dub-over everything. That's OK I guess but I like to hear the sounds of nature in my outdoor videos. Go Pro is very popular and I can tell when a video is produced from that camera with the wide fish-eye perspective on everything. I prefer many different perspectives like you might see in a professionally produced movie.

The big hump to get over is with learning the editing program. I use iMovie and iPhoto on a Mac but have seen videos produced on the MS Windows platform that are just as good. It's all about the guy behind the camera and keyboard...

It's like an old photographer once told me... you can't polish a terd.

Not a go pro video but just goes to show what can be done with a cheap $30 HD video camera and the right editing software.

I always love new ideas and tips. I like Shut-up-and-fish's idea and hope that many will contribute to this thread and help all us make better videos.

There are many video camcorder out there I personally like the gopro. Video qaulity is great. The audio is subpar but I prefer conversation to be private anyway (I mute my audio track).

Here is a video I made from a first generation gopro hero camera using cyberlink power director. I have tried several other editing softwares and I have found this to be the easiest to use. It's interface is intuitive.

If you aren't using the GoPro in water you can always take off the solid back and replace it with the vented back to allow for much improved sound performance. I am not sure if all the GoPros come with the vented back, but if not they can't be expensive to pick up.

I can contribute here, but nothing special lol just a cool vid and mount that is sweet for fishing.,

GoPro DIY, GoPro actually liked this video!

Head Mount - BEST, gets the best view of everything surrounding and you defiantly will not miss any action. Just make sure you get the camera positioned proper only on your head(Up and down) you don't wait it aimed to high but a little down i find works perfect.

Chest Mount - Alright. Not the best because your arms and reel/rod will get in the way of the shot and not make for good video, also when you use the head mount if you get a muskie on the figure 8 your eyes/head will naturally look down at the fish in the figure 8 which will caught the camera to aim down and catch it all on camera, when using the chest mount if you get a fish in the figure 8 and you look down, the chest mount will not get anything on camera it will just be point straight ahead

Tripod/Flat surface mount - Works decent but not that great for audio compared to the two above, IT is good if you want to get full hook sets on camera or holding up the fish or talking etc. but the audio won't be the best! I use this mount to change up the angle and if I've alreyd caught a few fish using the head mount i will try the tripod mount and get different angles.

also heres one of my favourite videos that I've filmed.

If anyone has any questions about editing/software/youtube/gopros/filming PM me ! i answer lots of questions every day and hope i can help some others out
