i dont care for the J cradles. looks like a cross wind could create a lot of extra stress.

This would be a perfect set up for me. One question...is it removable? I dont really want to drive around with that rack on my truck all the time.

You can take it off with 8 bolts. It takes about 20 off and 20 min back on. I never pull mine.

I just throw my PA14 in the back of my 2500hd and let it stick out. I did put a red ribbon on it.

I was riding to Ray Roberts with TexanClay right after he got his kayak. He had it in J cradles. I was literally staring out the sunroof for the entire 45 minute drive because we were both paranoid (like I said, he had just gotten it). Sure enough on the way back, crazy crosswinds the whole way and all of a sudden I yelled "STOP!!!". The boat was swaying side-to-side violently as the car behind us swerved out of our lane. We stopped and it was barely hanging on.

He exchanged the J cradles out that day, and when I was looking for a rack, my only criteria was "anything but J cradles." scared

Thanks for the replies...

I feel comfortable with the kayak laying flat with the tailgate down since my kayak is only 10' long it barely overhung the end of my tailgate.

Guess I should have clarified but wanted to know if I will damage the kayak if I keep the tailgate up and prop up the kayak from the bottom of the front of the bed and let it overhang over the top of the tailgate. I would feel more comfortable with my rods in the back with the tailgate up.

Guess I could leave the tailgate down and strap down the rods too...
