I just started tying flies a few weeks ago (woolly buggers and cypert's minnows) and just tried my hand at a clouser. Here's one of my better size 6 clousers and was looking for any constructive critique. The two questions I had is 1) does it look like it's tied too sparse/too thick and 2) does it look too long. Thanks

Thanks guys. The clousers I see at Backwoods just look "better" than mine. Tbates, they're just Mustad 3366 (as recomened by this forum).

Looks great!
Usually I tend to think in terms of "less is more" and a lot of the time bucktail still gives the same profile even if you slim down a lot, so that could be something to experiment with, but it looks like you're already off to a good start.

Your fly looks fine. If you move the weight a little closer to the eye, the head will pop up and down more on the retrieve. Fish seem to like that action.

Don't worry about making your Clousers too sparse. I once interviewed Bob Clouser for the newspaper I used to write for and he said that the flies he fishes with won't sell in his fly shop because everyone thinks they are too "skinny".

I always tie the weight close to the eye as well. Also, when I am fishing for redfish over the shallow sand, I make them very sparse and slightly shorter with a couple strands of crystal flash mixed in.
