How do I go about measuring the length of my trolling motor I'm getting ready to buy a new one

Well that one just tells you how to pick the one for your boat I have one I just want to know if I just measure the shaft or top to bottom.

Try this
Minnkota specs,The shaft length is from the base of the control box or head down to the collar on the motor or lower unit.To find the shaft length requirements for your boat. Measure from deck where the motor is to be mounted down to the water line of the boat when at rest. Add 16 to 20 inches to this measurement. A shaft of this length will work well in most conditions.

Measure from the bottom of the head to the top of the motor and add an inch. Just remember, you cant stretch the shaft once you buy one so buy one that's plenty long.
