I test lures in the pool at my townhome complex, people walk by and laugh. I don't mind though, I'm too excited watching what my lures are doing underwater.

Growing up I competed in the Bassmasters Casting Kids competitions. I had one of the competition targets at home and would practice on our sidewalk because the competitions were usually held on concrete. 2 or 3 times I came up 2nd place in the state competition held each year at the Dallas boat show. Everytime I lost to the same kid (I guess he was my middle school fishing arch nemesis). If you won 1st place in the state you went to the Bassmasters Classic to compete for the national title.

Did anybody else do these competitions or have their kids participate?

I wonder if the program is still going on?

Before a tournament, I will cast all of my reels a time or two to make sure they are functioning properly and adjusted well. Never been made fun of but it can draw some looks. Yard fishing can be legitimate when birds or cats try to grab your lures.

All the time. Usually practicing flipping a jig to help accuracy.

My 6 y/o likes to help. He will move the coffee can around and make me take some impossible shots and he tells me that I get 3 shots at it before it gets moved. He like to stick it in a tree and tells me to get in the back of my truck and then he cheers me on. It is pretty cute.

My neighbors come out and watch for a little while. They always ask "are you practicing"

We had a big German Shepard growing up. My dad and I would sit in the boat casting mirrorlures with hooks cut off. That shepard was heck of a redfish.

I tell everyone I'm trying to catch a Yard fish.

If we concentrated on the really important stuff in life,
there'd be a shortage of fishing poles

We found two of these games at Gander Mtn. for $6 a piece. It instantly became a bass club favorite. A few of us may have made it into a drinking game... Makes great competition and pretty good practice for flipping/pitching

I was casting from my yard, across the street and retrieving one day when a car zoomed around the corner. This had happened many times before and I normally would just allow the car drive over the line and pass on. No problem. Well this particular time I guess the car tire grabbed the line and began ripping off my spool. I ran into the street and pointed the rod toward the car waiting for the line to break. Needless to say, but I don't cast across the street any longer.

What we do makes us unique and different...People do not understand why you would brave sub freezing temperatures, 90days of heat over 100% to chase fish that you dont cut up and eat...They consider it redneck to have a rod & reel flipping in your front yard, however they are running to the golf course every 15 minutes...Feedem fish heads...

I always have a lizard tied on to the dock demon in the house. The kids love it, and it has helped my 5 yr old daughters casting immensely.
