Anglers Lodge...great place, breakfast early, plenty of boat parking with plugs, tackle shop and Carl Wengenroth (owner) is a super guy. He also makes some great hand poured plastics there in his tackle shop.

If its a big group and you want a trailer you can try river street lodging. Tommys number is 830.734.3248. We either stay there or lake amistad resort..

toadaholic, for an extended stay with a boat, Tommy's place is definiltly the way to go if you can get in.

as far as a fishing report I talk better than I type, so if you would like some help or have any questions feel free to call me on my cell at your convenience. My family never minds helping a fellow angler out.

Respectfully,

Not sure on fishing. My good friend is a game warden down there and said he isn't hearing very good reports. Said the lake is dropping about 2 feet a week. He worked Bass Champs and first took 18 pounds but that was with an 11 kicker. Said the other weights were low. He said he has been out Bass Fishing but is catching tons of sandies. I am sure someone is having luck though.

No disrespect, but they have slowed the release and will stop during the spawn, as far as Bass champs the weights being lower may have something to do with the 27mph winds that day that prevented a few people from fishing where the wanted. lol but it is what it is.

I don't know all the details just what he is seeing, he works the lake everyday and everyone he is talking isn't having as good luck as he has hoped. He is surely no expert and neither am I. Just what he is observing right now. I hope it is going to get better. It's my favorite lake.

If you can find shallow grass with deep water access close by there are lots of fish there. We fished champs last week and probably caught 30-40 fish and caught them all day. There are some big ones moving up too.

A park service guy told my buddy they were dropping it all the way into March and were taking it to 60 ft low, but who really knows??? He may have to making it up, no telling.

Grout-scout, I truly have no doubt they will take it to 60' but it wont happen until late may is the current prediction. as far as taking it into March, there has been an agreement since the 8o's to try to avoid having to do that, since it's inception they have managed to abided by it, but who knows for sure only the boundrie commision has final say. Dont get me wrong I am not the kind that would start and argument as I am about the most laid back friendly guy you will come across. With that being said, I am on the water of Lake Amistad about 6 days a week, and run into park service, Border patrol agents daily both on the water and at the ramps and I dont always hear the same things people post on here via 3 party account. All I am asking is take into consideration your posting third party info in response to someone who is posting what I see and hear daily. It truly changes daily and like I said earlier the only one who truly knows is the Boundrie comission, and as much is it drives me crazy it's suit's sitting around a metting room deciding which side gets the water and how much by when.

Oh and tell your buddy to tell his friend at the park service to please open spur 454, cause Box is almost gone and the hill at rough canyon is kicking my butt and Diablo is worse. its more than ready to launch they just have to turn a key and pull the dock back out( it dropped since they pulled it over there), cause my daily begging aint helping smile

Respectfully,

Jc gwynne

JC just think about how much longer you are going to live getting all that exercise walking up and down those ramps everyday, day in and day out. That is what the bench is for, just stop and take a blow.
Your the man JC. hope you have the best Spring on Amistad ever.
We got to fish together sometime soon. I got some things I want to show you before I give up.

Each person you work with holds some promise to your future success.

lol heck Don I am wondering every time I start up it, if today is the day the ramp is going to get the better of me. I can definitly say, I am loosing weight and rapidly reconsidering my desire to keep smoking.

I would definitly like to go out just for fun, I have alot of respect for your stick on this lake, and definitly bet there would be mutal learning, cause the day you stop learning in fishing is the first day you begin to fall behind! Besides I know how much time you have spent on these waters.
