Why? Honest question.
What is the relevance of 50-60 pound braid with an inferior strength non-braid leader?
Is this just to reduce the length of line integrity or what?
I get it that flouro is less visible in the water.
I run a few scenarios through my mind but it seems like managing to the exception with these set-ups. Seems to me that most anything the braid may be rubbed on eventually has said inferior line rub it as well (as a general rule).
Again, just curious.

I want to know also. I either run straight braid, straight flouro, or straight mono, with the exception of backing. I tried it for flipping and It had no advantage to me.

Sometimes it makes a difference, with both line visibility as well as the noise of braid coming thru or over cover

Hmmmm, so many posts about folks that use this, yet no rationale. Maybe it's just late.

I use braid to flouro leader on my spinning set ups for better castibility and less memory and the fluorocarbon is less visable. You also get better sensitivity with briad and it's more visable to you, which is important when fishing lightly weighted or weightless plastics. I generally use a 4-6 ft leader. I'll use braid to mono when i'm throwing a topwater bait or a trap in really thick grass, only about a 2 ft leader just so my hooks don't foul up with braid.
Hope this helps

This question comes-up often. For me it's not the strait pull strength (pound test), it's the lack of stretch and the toughness of the line. As you said, I don't trust that braid doesn't effect the bite -- in many cases it does. So the leader takes care of that. I love the feel I have of what the bait is doing with braid, even with a couple of feet of floro. Also, what happens a lot, especially on a lake like Falcon, is a fish will get on the other side of a bush (or bushes) when many feet from the hook is getting abused. Nothing gives me confidence in those situations that some heavy braid does.
I've caught many big fish with 65lb braid and 30 or 40 lb floro that I'm pretty sure I would have lost with strait floro.

I can fish anywhere from 15 pound to 30 pound test with one set up, that is with my 40 pound braid, I do not change my braid out but once a year at best, then I may just reverse the spool and have new braid, when I was using mono or fluro I would change my line out like every tournament, got expensive.

Hope this helps I think the short length of a leader it not the same strength (weakness) as a whole cast length of Fluoro or mono. The braid main line is taking the bulk of the burden, but your greatest concern should be the knot that ties the two lines together. I suggest the Albright over the uni for this reason. Tie it right and your leader will not be a weak link! When you cast crankbaits, you need a leader to prevent the braid from getting fooled in the hooks. A mono leader is needed to keep topwaters from nosing over and killing the action. Cranks also get better action with a Fluoro leader.

I use braid to fluoro on 75% of my rods. I like the sensitivity of braid and don't have to change it out as much. Braid makes a huge difference in feeling a bite especially deep (20ft+). Use braid to leader on almost all of my drop shots and jigs.

I have always been very against line to line leaders. Never (after trying them) use them and don't see the benefit. Just an added weak link and I hate losing big fish! Fish sense the vibration of braid even 5 ft away from the lure-IMO. Straight fluoro or even mono just doesn't have the drag coefficient of braid. I think I get more bites with straight fluoro or mono than braid/ leader. I guess I just believe if you want to use braid then don't screw around- just use braid. However, I think I'm in the minority and all those reasons mentioned above I have to admit seem logical.

Why wouldn't you use 65lb braid with 15lb leader? They're the same diameter.

I use braid with a leader on my spinning gear because I don't like the curl you get with non braided lines. The fluorocarbon leader is for the drop shot.
I also use braid with a heavy co-polymer leader with hard body swim baits because it does not tangle with the front hook and split ring like the braid sometimes does.

I don't like the way the 65 handles plus it catches a lot of wind, only time I use anything heavier is with an a-rig and sometimes a frog, never really seen the need for anything more than 40.
