One is a Penn 309, the other a 209, both are levelwinds.

My friend got these for me, just for fun.

They seem like mechanical beasts.
I bet I could pull my boat out of the lake with the 309.

Pendulum cast. Don't load up the rod. Thumb the spool, not the line on the spool.

I have a 309 on a 7ft master blackfinn rod that I bought from a fellow tffer a couple of months ago, nice solid reel, took some practice casts the other day in the yard and it casts real nice, I haven't used it yet but it seems like it would make a real good setup for flatheads and big blues.

On the point of rods for these? what would you recommend?

Keep in mind that I am clearly a millionaire, just learning to catfish
cuz my lear jet is in the shop, cannot make it our for weekend Marlin fishing trips.

Actually, you guys seem more fun then them, anyways.

I also think it would be a good idea, as mentioned above, to rig this for the bigger fish and hope like hell I catch one! Big hooks big bait. Ya buddy.

Those reels are not made for casting, you really need a boat for those, all my big reels like that i use for surf fishing and put them on free spool and kayak my baits out and paddle back and wait for the big one lol, they are pretty much small winches

Takes alot of time i take the level wind off seem to get more distance i cast my 3/0 4/0 and 6/0 all on a 12 ft ulgy stick with a avarge of about 65 to 75 yrds with a 4 ounce weight just takes alot of thumb control and finding the right place for your spool tensioner to where it dosent back lash
