I hope the rest of the states in the gulf decide to manage their own waters as well. The federal government is clearly either to corrupt or inept to do so.
Can someone explain how the Feds count recreational Red Snapper catch?

From the article
In noncompliance with federal red snapper regulations, Louisiana joins Texas, which has been noncompliant for years. Red snapper fishing remains open year round in Texas state waters.

I was out last year past the 9 mile limit after the season closed and was catching snapper. I let them all go because.... it was the law, but when I got back to the dock, there was a guy cleaning some big snapper. I asked him and he said that they were stopped by the TPW on the way in and they did not even question the catch, even though they were beyond the 9 miles. So the next day I went out and caught/kept my "Texas" limit of snapper. I was also stopped by the TPW on the way in, they asked if I kept a track on my GPS and I told them no, but showed them where I went on the GPS and they said ok!
I think that the TPW have an unwritten rule to say F*ck the Feds....
My Pop always said, big bait.... Big Fish!!!!

I know of a couple of charter captains locally that are permitted for state waters only and do state waters red snapper trips. I have not been out with these guys personally but I know some who have and they tell me they do catch very quality fish within 9 NM. It's a matter of spending the time, burning the gas and finding the spots. they are there. Regarding some of the statements above on illegal red snapper fishing (and keeping) beyond 9 NM .... well I think we need to be a little discreet on what we post here along those lines. Those federal folks do read these forums and we just add fuel to their fire. Not that it matters or that they need more fuel.

Agree on: Don't count on Texas Wardens looking the other way. I have read stories about the exact opposite. and highly encourage discretion on your illegal activities, posting them in the public domain is not a good practice. tunatamer is correct these forums are read by unfriendlies as well.

I think every state in "union" should succeed the US. Leave DC to be their own country. Tired of the BS
