I know there has been some tournaments and there are going to be more tournaments at Amistad here in the near future. There are a couple of us that work at school together that would like to make a trip to amistad on our day off next week. We are not tournament players or anything of the sort. Just getting out of the classroom for some relaxing time.
Any advice you would like to give would be appreciated. Even if you just want to pm me with info. We will not tell anyone we just want to catch something if we are driving all the way down there. Thank you for your help.

Go to Bass Champs.com and read the stories on the top 3 winners. Hope that helps. Good Luck!

I fished the lake for 30 years. It takes me two days of driving, looking and fishing just to figure it out. There will be lots of luck involved in you quick trip. Hope someone can put you on the fish that was there the day before you get there. You need a spawning flat that is hot to trot. Good luck.

When you are out there you got to be careful as the lake continues to drop you can be in 100 foot of water one minute and tearing up your lower unit the next on the humps so that is the main thing I can suggest.

I see on the Amistad Recreation Area website they have closed the air force ramp. Anyone got any input on this or when they will have the 454 area ready to use?

Look for the ducks and coots. Fish where they are. Pray for clouds and some chop on the water. And X2 on watching out for hazards. Lots of really deep water right next to really shallow water and lots of shallow water way out away from the banks.

Yes Southwinds (ie Air Force) ramp is now closed due to dropping lake level. When I loaded on Sunday trailer fell off concrete so I knew the shutdown would be this week. Debra

Box will be next to close. Maybe they will put the dozer grids down to back in on off the bank. Hwy. 454 takes a lot of clean up to get it ready. Also they have to tow a dock over there. It just depends on how much funds they have left to get the job done.

It just depends on how much funds they have left to get the job done. My buddy has a house in Box Canyon and said while he was there the park service had a diver down checking the ramp. It still was 35' long but only 8' of ramp depth left. They told him they were drainging the lake until March and had no idea just how low they were gonna take it. He said everyday he was there he could see the lake dropping. Not gonna be good, might see way more than 60ft this year.

Rig up a Texas Rig and a Skakey Head with 8" Mann's Jelley worms in watermelon red and dye the tail with red Spike It garlic dye. Look for dirty or milky water...good luck!

Stay with it Kid. Just check with me before you leave. I have been doing it for 30 years. I won my share of tournaments in 1998 to 2003. That was when it was at it's lowest point. It will be crazy good this fall when the grass gets 30 ft. deep. It will start taking off when the water stops falling. The topwater bite will be the best in the world. You will just have to find it, because it want be everywhere.
