Looks like I'm going to San Diego in a couple weeks, and they've been slaying big Humboldt squid. Anyone ever gone? I don't have a lot of money or time in the budget while I'm there for a real San Diego offshore trip but this sounds like a unique opportunity.

Looks like it'd be worthwhile ... good lord, 1,100 squid for 89 fishermen in 6 hours. That's a whole lot of calamari!!

They do pull pretty hard, imagine a 20 gallon bucket filled with water and reel it up from a couple hundred feet:) Remember when you get it to the boat to gaff it at the back not the head or you will get shot with water and ink.

Id be willing to DONATE some funds to help cover the cost of the trip for some fresh squid in return.

I would Scott but I'm not bringing any back. The trip is only like $45 for 6hrs.

Trip has gone and went. The squid moved out when i was there. I ended up on a trip to Mexico for rockcod. I saw half dozen whales on the trip. Other than that it was a dozen 1/2# fish coming up from 400' to feed pelicans. I vented the last few, and everyone looked at me like I was crazy. I was out with H&M landing.

I will say the trip was worth the $50 for a 7 hour trip with at least 4 1/2 fishing. I would really like to go when the fishing is good. My trip is a was during the worst time to go. But I was all ready there, so why not?
