I am purchasing a 1995 Skeeter ss140 that has a lowerance X45 depthfinder on the cosole with a through hull mounted transducer. Under the dash there is a connector that attaches the cable from the unit to the transducer cable. I want to put a new lowrance depthfinder on the boat, can i use the wiring that is already there or do I have to get a new transducer. The boat is sealed so there is no way for me to get the old tranducer. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

That model Lowrance is definitely out-date, no longer in production. Current version units will not work with that transducer --- same goes for power cables.
Don't understand your term "sealed". Unless you have a 'ducer that actually mounts through a hole in the hull, you should be able to get access to it from the bilge area.
If you access the drain plug area, there should be room to mount a new one. Alternatively, you could do an outside/transom mount.

Your are right, it does have an access area to the bilge area, guess I will have to buy a new transducer if I wanted hull mounted. I my current boat is completely open in the back with a lid on each side of the boat for easy access to everything, the 95 i have to access the bilge area through a screwed on cap in the splashwell. Still just a rookie, sorry about the confusion but thanks for the info about the units.

One thing I want to correct you on Candle just to keep there from ever being any confusion. There are 3 types of transducers: a skimmer, a "thru hull" (where you drill a hole through your hull) and a "shoot thru hull" ducer. You want a "shoot thru" or a skimmer. Just trying to clarify so you don't order the wrong part or end up with an installer drilling a hole in your boat.

Thanks for the info grout, i need the shoot thru transducer. Do you know if they are available when you buy a new depthfinder? Most seeem to come with just the skimmer transducer, but with all the lakes that I fish with flooded timber I would like to keep it a shoot thru hull transducer.

The transducer that comes with the unit will be fine. You can You Tube lots of info. Mine is on outside paid Daimond Sports $30.00 to run cable to console.

Check out Three Rivers Marine Electronics. Their prices are very good and last time I purchased from them, they allowed me to specify which style transducer I wanted. If you check them out, be aware that you must put the item in your "cart" to see the real selling price.

Have a 94 Skeeter. It is a pain in the butt to work through that tiny hole by motor. You can use a regular skimmer trans. to shoot through the hull. My suggestion is to pull the batteries and fuel and oil tank. Its a pain but you can't hardly do that with all that stuff in there. I just had my live well pumps replaced and my mechanic told me if I removed all of that and re-installed he'd only charge me 1-1/2 hours labor to change the pumps out instead of four. And he was right. I had about 2-1/2 hours of taking that [censored] out and putting it all back. But..I saved $200 in labor plus tax. Older model Skeeters were not designed very good! But....I love the boat.
