I have owned a 8ft Power Pole on my old boat and love it, but am selling it and want another one on my new boat? Question is which is better, I like the new way the Talon deploys vs Power Pole extension. Have read a few bad reviews on Talons getting stuck in the down position which is scary. Any thoughts Pros and Cons of both ?

if your talon does get stuck, there is a nut you can turn to manually bring it up. if the cable broke, it may not do that either though. with the talon there is no hydraulic pump its all electric. with the power pole if it does get stuck down you can always cut the line and push it up and tie it but oil would go everywhere. if you think you might want the humminbird 360 i believe the only way you can have 2 poles is to go with the talon, there is a extension that holds both on one bracket. hope this helps

Thanks, only looking to afford one only, just not sure which one to get this time. That's good info about the Talon.. I'm sort of leaning toward the Talon just because its new and different.

Another important factor to consider is if there is enough room for a hydrolic pump. If you do not then the Talon will be the only choice. IMO, with the improved bracket the talon is the best bang for the buck.

I sell both. If you want, you can give me a call and I'll discuss the pros and cons, as I know them. John

Hey guys, I just wanted to chime in here real quick about a few things. I see you commented about the extension deployment of the Power-Pole and I wanted to make you all aware of the benefits of this design. With the design of a Power-Pole's deployment the flexibility, strength and holding power remains very consistent throughout its entire range of motion. Whether youre in 1 ft. or 10 ft. of water none of these things are compromised because the length of the spike and the length of the u-channels(arms) never change. No matter the position everything is consistent, it is simply in a different position. I hope this makes sense, if not please let me know and I can elaborate. In the unlikely event of a Power-Pole getting stuck down, there really is no need to unhook, cut or disable any piece of the hydraulic system to allow the unit to come up. EVERY Power-Pole has built in drive off protection. Whether you use a rope, landing net or simply put the boat on plane for a short distance, thats up to you, but is a very simple and reliable process for retracting a disabled or stuck Power-Pole. If its new and different that you are after be sure to check out the C-Monster operated line of Power-Poles that are now completely wireless. They also come with a wireless 2 button key fob and a wireless dash switch which has speed and individual controls if using a dual system. Customize or update your system on the fly with the C-Monster Android smart phone app as well. Please be sure to let us know if you have any further questions about our products! Fireman, Every unit has a built in relief valve to allow hydraulic fluid to bypass internally when the unit is put under enough upward pressure. So during an accidental drive off with the unit in the deployed position the force of the boat getting on plane will simply push the unit up to a safe position. This can be achieved by using a rope or landing net as well to pull the unit up if the unit ever became disabled or stuck down. Hope this helps!

Do any of the Talon owners fish with a back seater? Seems like it would be in the way of casting.

Actually when they are up they protect my Cowling from getting beat up. If you want them out of the way for someone in the back you can add the Tilt Bracket and they are totally out of the way and not dragging the anchore.
