I have 2 huge cracks on the bottom of my shower. I need to replace the entire shower. Any suggestions on any second surplus stores to buy one at. I am also thinking about replacing this cheap plastic/fiberglass shower with tile. I need to go the cheapest route as possible. Please tell any pros and cons when replacing this shower.

if you tile it, i think you have to do concrete work on the floor to angle it to make the water drain. i could be wrong though.

If you've never put in a shower liner and poured the floor before tiling, a slide in would be the easiest. Slide in pre-form showers are also going to be the cheapest but not necessarily the best.

One thing you will have to check out in that situation is the amount of water damage that has been done. May have to replace a lot of the wood that may be rotted. I have done shower enclosures for over 30 years and followed behind a lot of tile companies that have put in new pans and new tile and sometimes all of the wood has to be replaced first.

question, how do get a pre-formed shower through doorways? You can't use a one piece unit in an existing home. You would have to use a preformed unit that comes in pieces and assemble it in place.

if its a one piece you need to check what size your bathroom door is, if you can clear the width then a one pc would be the best. if not get a fiberglass pan and replace what you have then tile the walls to waterproof it.
tile floor can be done but will require a new concrete "pan" be built first, then tiled. tile will not be the cheapest but would be the best if you on a slab, subfloor construction not so much due to movement in the wood.
post a pic or 3 or 4 so I can see what you have

Hop, if you put hardybacker board down on the wood subfloor first, it will pretty much stablize the subfloor.
We made a huge mistake when we added on to our house by putting in the fiberglas showers and tubs. I still want to take a sledge hammer to them and put in ceramic tile. At least you can clean ceramic tile easily.

Hop is right. Tile shower floors on wood sub-floors is not a good idea. Fiberglass or stainless pan with tile walls still makes a really nice shower.

Just a idea. We had a shower built on a sub floor. they used two sheets of 3/4 inch treated plywood, then 15 pound felt, then some kind of concrete, then a 40 mil liner then another layer of concrete, then tile. Been twenty years and no signs of a problem.

Schluter makes a great containment system. The trade is slow to change so you don't find too many using it.
Barn there is a guy on here named Brian Clark is he is not too busy catching bass he would be a good guy to call.
