I have tried to sell a few things lately, a couple of pistols, ammo reels and such just to finance new stuff. I have mostly posted them on craigslist but I have noticed references to it several times on here.

LOWBALLERS

Nothing makes my blood boil like offering something at a below market price and someone offering you an amount that just pisses you off. I posted a Sig Sauer pistol brand new in 9mm unfired mind you and had more than one guy offer between $200 and $250. I had a reel on Cl earlier today and had someone offer me less than half of what I was asking. Now I know by selling on open forums we open ourselves up to that but come on have a little decency and common sense.
And if you are reading this and you have done this to someone shame on you!

Sorry, Rant, may not be the right forum.

I haven't bought stuff off of this forum or any other, but the proposed buyers could be ignorant of the value of the items. I've seen something similar at actions, classifieds and the like on everything from comic books to cars.

I was selling an Avengers #1 (mint and sealed) not too long ago and a guy offered me $5. He didn't know a lot about the comic or it's true value. Just kinda got caught up in the whole Avengers hype with all the movies and other media out there at the time. I educated him and actually sold him some other books in his range to get him started on a small collection.

I've personally found that low balling only works if it's in person cash in hand... over the phone or internet its rediculous to do it unless you asking for like 10$ off like a 240$ item

Don't sell it to that person. Wait for the right one. Everyone is looking for a deal and you can't fault them for that. You have probably done it yourself. Free enterprise 101.

It is your job as a seller to get as much for it as you can. It is my job as a buyer to be at the right place at the right time and get the item at a lower price. That may seem to be a lowball to the seller but to me it is honestly all I can afford to pay.
Saving the tax on an item someone has for sale, new and in the box; is not enough of an incenitive for me to make the purchase.
Now the ammo people are selling product that is 10 years old and trippling their money. You buy it and keep it 10 years and it may not fire. These guys are taking an opportunity to rotate their stock pile and repurchase when it comes available again at a lower more reasonable price.
My thinking is you never know unless you ask. There's no need to beat around the bush if that is all I have to offer for something I want. It only takes a second for you to type NO and we both move on. Then if you find out you cannot get what you are asking you can start going down that list if you really want to sell it.
Famous words, "If I can't get that for it I will keep it."

I love a deal as much as the next guy but I think if you were selling something you would know the difference in a deal and a lowball, like I said it bothers me and I have seen several remarks about it on this forum so I guess it does happen.

Sure it happens; but I have to live with a lot of other things in this life that bother me much worse.
Like when my wife says, "Do I look fat in this outfit."
Do I want to give her what she is asking for and sleep on the couch or am I going to give her a lowball answer.

I respect the get it as cheap as ya can as much as anyone...I am basically a flipper for a living....

BUT I have had a rash of this lately too. Selling 2k items offering them up at 1200 or less and having people offer 600 or less...when the only comparable items on the market are over 2k...give me a break and have some common sense.

me too what's wrong with trying to get a little hussle now and then? I know I'm glad I've made offers before and came out with great deals. No one is making you take the offer. Also dot put "or best offer" in your add if you are firm on a price.

And then you have the guy who posts a used item for 20% over what I can buy it for brand new. And if someone points that out, someone else will always sound off about not being a jerk and torpedoing the guy's sale.

If you put it out on a public forum, don't be offended by a lowball offer. And if you see it on a public forum, don't be offended by an inflated price.

Say yes, say no, move on; don't take it personally. Not everyone understands what it's worth, and not everyone is honest. It's the world we live in, and frequenting your favorite forum doesn't automatically make someone a paragon of virtue.

I always wonder what they paid. I sold a 22ft Nautic Star a few years ago. Later I see one that has nothing that mine did not have, is 3 years old and he wants $7K more than I paid brand new.

I've been a salesman all my life, and you know whats worse than low ball offers ? No offers at all. If you get an offensive offer, just smile and say no thanks, maybe the guy will come with a better one.
