I'm curious about this too. I usually use a tap-tap cadence, but sometimes I'll do some real heavy jerks and reeling with no specific pattern. The sometimes I do a long draw on the rod, let is sink or set, then a long draw, this is almost like ripping traps, but slower and more subtle. Are these good methods? Yes, I never stay a consistent tap tap though more like tap tap pause tap pause tap tap. Length of pause and drag vary try different till you get bit then try and mimic. Keep some slack for the rips so it will have better action reel when paused. Just my .02

Excalibur makes a decent one for around 8 bucks.

I'm old school with the rattling rogue. I like them in prespawn and post spawn. Black with chrome is my go to color. Also works good on schoolies. Just try different twitches till you find one they hit that day. The colder the water the longer the pause. Some times I throw it on a 7 foot med spinning rod with 8# line you get a lot more distance casting with these light baits

I was just commenting on jig fishing, telling xrecharge to be patient. Well I think I need to take my own medicine. I have no confidence in jerk baits and have read over and over they are great winter/early spring baits.
What do I need to know: favorite brands/colors for Texas and where and when to use them (beside in the water when I'm fishing).
Thanks for the edumacation! My favorite brands are Smithwick Suspending Rogues, Lucky Craft Pointer 100s, and Rapala X-Raps. I like to keep colors simple and use shiny colors such as chrome black back in clear water and gold, clown, or bone on cloudy days. Don't forget the pause. Use the smallest line diameter you can.
