I am going to start using my gopro more this season. I have the wifi backpac, remote/phone app and two batteries. The batteries only last about a hour each. Thats without the wifi backpac attached. I am sure it will die sooner with the wifi attached.
My question is how to yall go about recording your fishing? Do you just turn it on as soon as you hit the water and replace the battery/SD card every hour? Or do you try to guess when the action is coming? Please, any tips or suggestions!

I have the original hero, so the battery lasts quit a bit longer, but I still try to keep it off if I am just paddling and turn it on when I think I may get lucky. However, this often leads to missed opportunities.... I am going to change my approach, if I am fishing, I'm rolling!

I get 2.5 hours out of mine because of the settings. I start rolling when the boat is wet and go till I'm out.

I keep it running. sometimes on a long paddle Ill turn if off. Fun things happen when your paddle. Fish Blow up in front of you. You see wildlife on the bank. Or you get some crazy wake that makes it hairy for a bit. I keep it on my hat. I took the wrist strap mount and drilled holes in it and bolted to a bill of a cap. The head strap was uncomfortable. That way its easy access to change batteries and card. I don't have to change cards much but batteries i go through them like candy. When I get home i down load all my video and i keep it.
The reason i keep all my video is for example I may have a area I fished that the water was really low and now the lake is up. So i can look at the video before i go out again and remember areas that are now under water. So even if there is nothing on the video.... there is always something.

Hero2 will get about 2 hours at 1080P 30fps, hero3 will get about 1.3 to 1.5 hours at 1080P 60fps. The hero3 battery is smaller in capacity as well as size.

I keep mine on time laps. You get some pretty cool "video" and pictures you would never get otherwise. Everything last longer too. If its facing you, it makes it really easy to get shots of the fish you catch. Facing in front of you will capture cool nature shots.
