Can somebody tell me the difference in an Elite 5 DSI and an HDS 5 Gen 2? The elite 5 says it's a fish finder/chart plotter. What does that mean and which one should I get?

Also, it has a weird looking transducer. Can I still mount it on my trolling motor? And how would I mount it to the trolling motor?

The elite 5 is down scan only, and does not have traditional sonar.
the hds 5 more traditional sonar, unless you structure scan, then you can also have down scan.
mount transducer just like you would on transom. the long and wide end of the transducer to back of boat.
you will be seeing directly below trolling motor.

Does the elite 5 have GPS with lake insight built in or would I have to buy a avionics chip to put in sd card slot?

NAVIONICS...I have both and the lake insight is an inferior product...by far
