Hey guys, first off this is "BankRobert". Figured I needed to change that now that I've got my boat.

My GoPro came in yesterday. I've never had a harder time getting merchandise out of its package. In my attempt to charge the three batteries I have, I dropped probably 6 different items, whether it be the battery cover, case, batteries, etc. And that was sitting at my desk. So many small parts, I can't imagine having to change out batteries while on the water.

What do you guys keep extra batteries and stuff in when in your boat? Any good tips/methods for swapping batteries out while on the water? Should I just bank somewhere and get out and do it?

I bought the Battery BacPac which attaches two batteries at once (so 4 hours) but I still plan on having to change it out once per trip usually. Any other general tips for GoPro use? Going to take her out with me on Saturday, and hope to get some footage worth keeping.

I wish i could help but like you I just got my GoPro this year. I planned on keeping spare batteries in a ziploc bag and then probably keep that in a dry box/bag.

I carry about 7 or 8 batteries and several memory cards. I keep the camera rolling. If it ain't on you will miss the good stuff. I put the batteries in a ziplock bag and put that bag in my pockets in my PFD. I have a Pelican memory card case that is my my pfd also. I have not had a problem yet. Been rained on etc and I have been fine.

Don't get your batteries from best buy (pricy). Get the after market batteries by wasabi. you can find them on amazon 2 batteries and a charger for 20 bucks.

I got the Wasabi batteries. I also had one come with the battery BacPac, and one with the camera. So I have four now. I only have one 32gb memory card, is that enough for four batteries (8 hours) of video? I'm guessing not now that I think about it. bang

Been wanting to get a GoPro and start a YouTube channel. Didn't know they were so difficult though! I guess the quality makes up for it

Not sure they're that difficult, it was definitely just me being clumsy. Once you have it in its case, its super easy to use from what I can tell. I think changing the batteries will be the only tricky part, because to do so you have to remove the camera from its protective housing. At least until I get more comfortable on my yak and with the GoPro, I will be banking and getting out to do this.

Check out the battery BacPac if you get one. For $50 it attaches a second battery to double your battery life (and you get a spare battery in the process).

That really depends on your settings. 1080P 30FPS, you should get about 6 hours on a 32gig card. 720P @ 30fps longer.

As far as battery life on gopro 2 you get about 2 hours, on gopro hero 3, about 1.3 hours. The Hero 3 battery is actually smaller than the hero2

I plan on running 1080 60fps. Sounds like I'ma need more cards. I want that epic slow-mo breach!!

I just take multiple cameras and swap them out. You will get right a 4.5 hours with a new Hero3 and a backpack filming at 1080 30. Use 64 gig cards and you can use them on multiple trips. It is a bit of investment but you dont have to open up your housing and all that jazz out on the water. When you open your housing you also let moister in there which will fog your lens as it heats up. You can get the little dehumidifier things but if it is really humid out....they only work for so long. If you are in the Gulf...all that is exponentially harder.

Just something to think about. I know they are expensive but worth every penny when you are not opening them up sitting in a rocking kayak and water all around you. once one dies....insert backup for the rest of the trip and you wont miss a thing. You will also be just fine with 32 gig cards for 4.5 hours of recording. You will just have to dump them after every trip.

Happy film making....

Yah 1080P 60FPS is about double the space as 1080P 30fps.
