Rod for sure. Any real with a decent drag and gear ratio can get the job done but if you cant feel the fish on the line whats the point?

That's a hard one. I tend to spend more money on my reels but I don't want a "cheap" rod either. I can spend around 100 on a rod and get one that I feel comfortable with. I have a Falcon Amistad (my most expensive rod) and I actually don't use it as much as I do some others.

I've never slammed my reel in the tailgate of a truck or stepped on it and broken it. Cannot say the same for a rod. They are both important, but I spend more on the reel than the rod.
I can spend 200 on a reel and get a good reel. I can spend 200 on a rod at get a 90 dollar rod with a jacked up price. If I want a real high end rod, I have to spend 300 or more. I've used them and it didn't do much for me. Nice, sure, but then so is the 300 dollars.

I consider a good rod to be in the 100 to 150 range. I'm not ever going to spend more than that on a rod. I typically use a falcon Lowrider and have recently tried the Lews speed spool reels. The rod in my opinion is more important.

I think that both are important.

Many lake records have been caught using a cheap Zebco reel.

I used to think the reel, but now i know its the rod. The more more you fish, the more you understand these things.
