So i know there is another fly swap starting up, but i posted this in the other udf thread and only had one pm.

I wanted to give this one more shot.

Since deer hair can be a lot of work, lets try 6 spots. With the same rules as the other thread. Same timeline as well.

... Edit: ...
1. The swap will be limited to the first 6 people to respond.
2. Each participant will tie 7 Upside Down Frog flies, which are the same size and color. Any size and color is acceptable, but please submit 7 that are the same.
3. The flies will be mailed to me and I will PM my address to the participants.
4. After the due date, Ill split up the flies and each participant will receive one fly from each of the participants including your own fly. So, youll tie 7 flies and youll receive 6 flies back to you.
5. The last day to sign up for the swap will be Feb 12.
6. The flies will be due to me on March 7. << So, you get 4 weeks to tie 7 flies.
7. Include a self addressed, stamped envelope to be used to return your flies to you. Please use stamps for the return envelope and not metered mail since it can expire.
8. I recommend putting your flies in a box to prevent damage during shipment. Be sure your box is big enough to hold all the return flies. The box can be any small box that fits in the mailing envelope; I used an old fly line box last time.
9. Please toe tag your flies. This means to attach a piece of paper with your name on it to the fly so everyone knows who tied what. Basically, it is a chance to sign your work.
10. All skill level tiers are welcome to join this swap
11. Have fun!

6 people 7 flies. We will donate a set to somewhere smile

Thanks TXRedRaider. I'm excited about this swap. This looks like one heck of a workhorse. I still don't have my design down yet.

I hope we get enough people!

If we don't get enough folks, we'll just swap'em with who we get. As the sticker at th' Walmart's says, "I ain't skeered."

I'd like to suggest one small correction about the difficulty of lashing this bug together. We're not spinning deerhair for the UDF, instead we're only stacking it. There is also no packing involved, at least the way I tie it. Stacking has always come a lot easier to me than spinning has. With only 3-5 bundles of hair to handle, this bug is probably a great place to learn important deerhair skills like cutting it from the hide, holding onto it, and putting it into position on the hook.

To save folks some googlin', here is the tutorial: http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/6241711/Re_Upside_Down_Frog_Step_by_St

As always, if anyone has questions about how to lash this thing or suggested improvements, please let me know.

I'm in the wooly bugger swap, but I'd like to try this, too. If it's ok - I'm in.

If we get a few more people quick like I wouldn't mind letting more join. However, if you have already committed, and don't want to tie more flies just let me know, and I will keep it closed where it is.

We are officially full, but if you want in before the deadline, just post up. We'll probably let you in smile

I'm excited to see the variety!

Last night and this morning I pampered my wife and a friend she had in town that stayed the night with wine, a fire on the patio and then pancakes and bacon this morning. It earned me some free time and since it was a nasty drizzly day I retired to the bench in the garage and knocked out my entries. Here's what I'll be sending in, "Natural Bully UDF"

Head: Dyed black deer belly hair
Body: Natural Central Tx. deer hair
Belly: Black chinelle w/ silver cord
Tail: Camo silcone skirt
Hook: Gamakatsu B10S Size 2

I like my hook well hidden and feel like the LMB hit this fly with enough piss and vinegar that I have no trouble getting a hook set. If you like it more exposed feel free to trim the hair to your liking when you get the fly, I promise it won't hurt my feelings.

Wow, Do It, those look great! I'm really liking that color scheme. At first I thought camo was a kind of weird choice, but then I remembered that animals are the original camouflage experts, and it made perfect sense.

I think that as long as you tie in the rear-most bundle of hair with its center in front of the hook point, it really shouldn't impede the hook set. Between the leverage of the hook point up "action" and the way bass tend to hit these, I haven't had an issue. It's really an awesome combination of weedlessness and hookability.

I'm leaving the legs on mine "full length" so that y'all can trim them to suit you. I haven't had issues with short strikes or the legs fouling the hook, but your mileage may vary.

I followed Do It's lead and tied mine on size 2s. I know that not everyone uses a marlin rod to fish for bass. smile

I've got four down so far, but unlike Do It, I haven't tied them all in the same color scheme. I probably lack the physical dexterity and mental focus to tie more than two of anything and have them look similar.

Hopefully I can get the remainder lashed together tonight. Otherwise I'll have to wait until late this week or this weekend because I'll be headed south for work for the majority of this week.
