by the way, I think that fish has a better chance of surviving after the care they give her than just the putting her back after handling and stressing her without all the TLC. +1 This may have saved her life. Should the fish have been fizzed sooner. Sure but what are the chances of survival if not fizzed at all and returned to the water? If your a SAL program believer or not I feel this was the right decision.

You guys are funny.
Bass are not a majestic creature that run wild in fields of hydrilla and eat lollipops dropped from rainbows.
I know Don Hampton was there shortly after the fish was caught, why didn't he get to fizz it?
Weird.
It is funny how some people think bass are like that! Great fish man

I don't believe that anyone of us on this forum wants to see a fish like that die. I don't know the exact steps taken to care for this fish from catch to transport. Maybe there should be a "task force" or "team" of professionals in the area that are called or "on call" for such an occasion as this. If we can learn from this ordeal, then maybe the next one will be saved. Beautiful fish and congrats to the angler on a great catch.

I'm disappointed in some of you. What should be a thread congratulating a man on the catch of a lifetime has turned into a pizzing match of who heard what, when, where, why and how.
Why can't some of you either congratulate the man or say nothing? Someone's always got to come along and rain on someone else's parade.
Makes me sad and ashamed of some of my "fellow" fishermen.
Coincidence is His way of remaining anonymous.

If a guy told me keep catching 7 to 9 pound fish or put on this black salty and catch a 16 I'm digging out a circle hook.

Yes, I have no idea why using one bait as supposed to another is held in higher regard than another. I have seen this culture or thinking before, I grew up in the country in Upstate New York, trout heaven, always fished with a spinning rig, along with treble hooked small spinners or live bait, worms, minnows etc.. Fly fisherman would see you fishing your way and they always seemed to want to offer their 2 cents, unsolicited mind you, while your fishing!!??!! About the virtues of fly fishing, and how it is more proper!!! Really? My father after a while would run them off verbally, and when he passed I honored the tradition till this day, I am fishing, move along. Funny thing most of these guys came up from the city to catch a break from the people there, to only impose ther misery on others.

Couldn't smile? If I caught a toad that big I'd be grinning ear to ear!
still, CONGRATS on the monster catch. I hope I'm skilled/lucky enough to hook one close to that big
