Just for fun...

I have been looking to pick up a Lews reel lately on either ebay or Craigslist. Some guys have posted that they got one for a really good price. It got me wondering what kind of deals some of you have gotten off these websites on a rod, reel, or mutliple rods and reels. post your best deals you have gotten from Ebay, CL, or anywhere else. Also, if you are a master at this... post your tips for when and where to look, what season, and whatever else you got.

Good Lookin' family you got there. I can't help with your question, but I want a Lew's also.

Not fishing related, but I bought a k5 blazer off craigslist a few years ago for 600 had a 6 inch lift, new 35's it wouldn't run he said and was getting ticketed by the city. I figured it was a scam. I went and looked anyway, he had title and everything was good needed the carb rebuilt and that was it. I drove it for a while and sold it for 5200 best deal I ever found online.

Around October 2 years ago I managed to find a Daiwa TD-X brand new in the box for $25. Even the instructions were in Japanese, lol. Ended up being a great gift for a buddy of mine, he really dug having the spool release on top of the reel.

I purchased a Lew's speed spool SS1H casting reel off craig's for $60 NIB right after Christmas. That's only $40 off retail, but this was the reel I wanted so it worked out.

Might be worth a look since you're near Dallas. It appears you're a lefty, so I dunno.

Got to just keep looking and good deals can be found on ebay. I bought 5 Revo STX's recently for $75-80 each. Late last year I bought a St.Croix Premier for $27 and a Castaway Skeleton for $30 from the same guy, $20 shipping total for both rods. Reels are in great shape other than some minor rash on a couple and 1 has ceramic bearings added, and rods are in like new condition.

Don't look at CL too often.

I've never bought anything fishing related from CL, but I buy quite a bit off of eBay. The key is to be persistent but patient. About every 2 days I do a search for whatever I'm looking for. Eventually it'll pop up, and it'll be reasonable. Bid what you think is a fair price and don't look back. Do NOT get wrapped up in the "winning" part of eBay.

I bought a Lews 5.4.1 speed spool NIB off eBay for 60 bucks just before Christmas this year. Works perfect.

Mountain Drew... I am left handed at everything but fishing, golf, and shooting guns. Thanks for the link. I emailed him. Hopefully he still has it. Sounds like the speed spools on ebay are going for around 60 on the best deals.

Choogie Chunker... You got some sweet deals.

Ebay has certain buyer protections that CL doesn't have. I usually go for the "Buy it Now", free shipping and no sales tax listings. Also, for me, Ebay has easier product listing search and watch features that are time savers.
