Haha I have a nice Canon but no waterproof case. I want it for videos, not photos.

I just committed to buying that Piranhamax 195c on Craigslist. Going to pick it up tomorrow on my way back from picking up my kayak.

So. Damn. Excited.

Like a kid at Christmas. Except Santa didn't pay for any of it.

Glad a yaker got it. I would have bought it if my budget wasn't already blown. Got twins on the way.

I'm in Plano, but would be willing to drive. I'm going to spend this week trying to rig up a crate, scotty rod holder, and a couple other small things. The FF intimidates me though. Someone with experience mounting a Piranhamax would be ideal.

I've read some guides just now. It doesn't seem UNDOABLE. But I, to put it in perspective, I've never even seen Marine Goop in real life. So I'm as amateur as it gets. I've put computers together from scratch so I'm generally good with stuff like that, it's just unfamiliar territory and I don't want any necessary peepholes in my new yacht! More than anything, I could just use someone there to help guide me or give me tips or the occasional "NO NO NO DON'T DO THAT" as I go along.

I'll provide some beer or just my charming personality for some guidance. Probably next weekend, or whenever works for them!

BankRobert
You are always welcome to bring your goodies here to Mariner. We'll be happy to talk over rigging and installation options and we've got some kayak stands with a good working height, for most folks, that we can let you use while you play.

BTW - I like your Windsurfer/SUP/Fishing platform!

Havent read through all the replies so sorry if anything I say is a repeat.

I have Lowrance Elite 4x DSI, I originally mounted the transducer in hull just to get me in the water. When using DSI through Hull there is a loss of detail (not much but noticeable) So I decided to rig an in-water mount using one of my rod mounts that I had previously installed. I used a 1/4in rod and screwed it into my removable mount and then the transducer at the bottom and it works quite well.

Like yourself, I had a really hard time with the idea of putting holes in my yak when I first purchased it. But ill tell you now that I have a good deal of experience, it really Is NOT a big deal, and Ill explain why: when you mount equipment on your yak, the holes will be on a high point of the yak where no water accumulates, plus the rivets hold extremely well and silicone sealant does wonders. If you can afford it; Lowrance does sell a scupper mount, but if youre on a budget I would suggest searching for your inner red-neck and make one yourself.

If there is anything that I can help you will just let me know, I can send pics of my kay set up, or better yet you are more than welcome to join me on the lake, I fish Ray Roberts and Lake Lewisville. Good luck! and happy Yakin!

I live in Plano too(75 and Legacy) and would be more than glad to help. Or if there are anybody else that is interested, maybe someone can host a yak rigging clinic. smile

Bear in mind, next weekend some of us will be heading to Twak. Sooo you might want to get your yak ready before next weekend.

I'm in Plano off Parker west of 75. I'm in Houston until Monday but shoot me a PM when you get everything together and we'll get you set up in no time.

Awesome man! That's not too far from me.

Can anyone recommend a good FF in the $150 range? Just want dual beam that will accurately show me structure. Trying to order one today.

Oh I'll be there. I just might be FF-less. But I'm more than happy to just follow you guys around, haha.

I bought a Humminbird 570. Got a good deal (I think) for $149 with no tax and free 2-day shipping. Might try to rig it up before this weekend... I'm scared lol
