This thread gave me the idea of attaching two ski poles together to make a longer stake out pole. They are attached with a few rivets for now but if I am happy with it I will weld them together. Good luck with the hybrids! Im hitting one of my favorite spots for a multispecies trip in the AM!

I'm using a 12ft x3/4" Fiberglass tree stake pole. It's a bit heavy but worth it. If in 8 foot of water it will sink 2 foot in the mud. The pole is easyer to use than an anchor and it don't spook the fish much.

Just for the record the golf ball retriever was way to flimsy for a stake out pole so I ordered a ARC-light and flag and will make it into a extendable flag and anchor light crate add on.

Don't throw the golf ball retriever away.
It makes a great catfish jug retrieval stick when you need it and not very heavy. It is nice to be able to reach out another few feet when one is moving away from your line of travel.
It also makes a great "stand-off" pole when fishing heavy timber for crappie. I have one with a "clip" on one end and a carabiner on the other. I put the little end over a limb and hook the carabiner to my anchor trolley and adjust as needed. works great when the wind is working against you.
tight lines, Phill.

I got mine from Bert at the last spring GTG, and I use the bungee paddle holder to hold it while paddling around. It slows jet skis down in the creek, Texas bubba got a kick out that while on the creek with me last year LOL. I was fishing in the middle and had to pull the stake up to move out of the way, not threaten them. As they slowly passed they asked what it was for and thought it was a cool idea.

I have bert to thank for mine as well, started with a 6' sharpened fiberglass rod. a bit of pool noodle type material and some 550 cord and I have a damned nice stake out pole.

Dang! I broke my driver off at the head last time I was playing golf. (Golf isn't too relaxing for me). I threw away the shaft. that would've made a pretty good stake for where I've been fishing.

I use em for work often. THEY WILL NOT WORK AS A PUSH POLE FOR LONG IMO they would probably come apart after a few trips. they just wont handle much pushing or pulling. in my experience theyre made more for twisting light bulbs and painting.
