After shopping for a anchor pole and other equipment for kayaks I have found that if it says kayak on it they double the price. So I fished the web and found a you tube video on a kayak Stake out pole and made one.
Simple and cheap.I got the four section ball retriever and glued the bottom stem tight as a point since it was thinner and I was afraid it would bend.I added a floating cast net rope and I plan on adding a small slip float to it just in case.
It wound up 6.5 feet long and 2.5 feet closed.I will be adding the outriggers tomorrow so I can stand up and fish(really get a beer out of the cooler and pee standing) better.

I like the idea of a collapsible stakeout pole but I know my parkn pole takes quite a bit of abuse. Also wondering how you will be able to keep it from closing when you are staking into hard bottom like some of the clay in the area?

I like the idea too. I wanna know how it works when sand n dirt get in it.
Plus isnt it made to hold a little more than the weight of a golf ball?
Whats gonna happen when it's in clay or thick mud? Let us know
How it works. I've only used the fiberglass tree stakes
N rake handles. I like wooden ones best Because they float with no rigging and arnt too slick when wet. Just would like a little longer stake out pole. Had a 13' fiberglass but I think it slid out the back of my truck when I was laying down donuts and poppin wheelys! eeks want to see how a old ski pole would work. Ha! By the time I settle on the one, might have spent as much $ as on a rigged n ready stake out pole w/ 15-20% discount hammer but then again its all fun right? loco man I love fishing!

The mounts are Scotty. The outrigger themselves appear to be the Yak Gear ones.

Do rake handles work well? Did you sharpen the end or something to help it stick in the ground? I just bought a boat and am trying to decide which route to go for a cheap stakeout pole. I like the idea that something wooden would float on its own... and I could drill a hole through the top to run a bungee/lanyard through it...

Yes, you would need to sharpen it to make it easier to push into the bottom. It would also have to be resharpened every once and awhile depending on the use and bottom structure.

My first stake-out pole was a $1 1-wood golf club with the head cut off I got at Goodwill. It was a little over 3 feet long and worked well on the flats at the coast. Ski pole also make light-weight and inexpensive poles too.

Ski pole is what I'm using. A little more length would be nice!

I am using three carbon fiber golf driver shafts, nested together. I cut the heads off ( the clubs are about $1.00 each at a church thrift store!); drilled holes in the end of two of them, and jammed them together..

I later drilled through the shafts and added an aluminum rivet to keep them from pulling out. works well. You can make any length you want by adding more ( or fewer) clubs) The rubber grips are nice to hold on to...and I left all three on, so I have lots to pull on when really stuck in shell or mud. Very lightweight, too. Price is right... rich

p.s. I added a large wire-tie, wrapped tightly around the top grip so I have something onto which I can affix a cord and float.

Sweet I wanted to try this! I have multiple fiber hockey sticks with broken blades that are about to turn into poles

The pole worked fine today and only had one issue. When you twist and collapse the pole the sucker shoots water like a squirt gun. It does ad a possible fun issue when you partner is close enough.Kayak Wars points start tomorrow and we are going after Hybrids.
