So enough time has passed to where I think we all have formed an opinion about the Alabama Rig's Effectiveness. The purpose of this poll is not to debate about the ethical aspects of it. We are genuinely interested in people's thoughts. Also if you have not tried this technique due to only fishing shallow water lakes, please comment. Now's your chance to let it all out!

Saw a 10 pounder caught on one I have seen a lot more 10+ fish caught on other baits. The A rig is an "Okay" bait, prob better in a clearer water lakes, unlike what we mostly have around here, just like the big swim baits.

probably the best bait when fish suspend around bait, other than that it's just a good bait oriented lure.

I know in our testing that a lot of times other tried and true methods performed the same or beat out the Umbrella Rig. Although it does seem like when it's on I.E the right conditions that it's unstoppable. One could make the argument that had we tried a similar bait in that same time period would the results be the same. That is a valid argument, although i wasn't about to put it down to find out!!

Call me crazy, but I throw a tandem A rig using the Yumbrella with spinner blades in front. I don't use weighted heads, but my flukes get progressively larger with one weighted magnum fluke in the center rear. I use a dedicated Mojo Bass Swimbait rod and I use a plastic baseball bat to cover the rig.
I think the biggest down side to the A rig is the practical storage. Good luck in selling yours, but I also think there's not that many folks throwing it anymore.

I may be the only guy who has not thrown any version of the umbrella rig. I do have plans to try it soon on a certain lake and for a search bait unless it just knocks there socks off then I will use it in the event. I guess I am just kind of old school where I have baits in just a few colors that can cover all levels of the water column. This bait is just like any other you have, it is the confidence you have in a bait really makes a difference.

Used the umbrella rig (bigger, deeper version) to catch striper in Ga. for years and it worked in certain situations just as did white hair jigs, live trout and shinners, free lined or down rigged. It's a technique, no better than any other and like the others only productive when situation is right. And as heavy as it is and as hard to rig and store, it's not a fav for me. But the fact that it won a big tourny sure sold alot of them.

JACKTHE, The hardest part of using the umbrella Rig is storing them and rigging them up. So a lot of guys use cut off plastic coke bottles, or something similar to keep the arms from flailing while on the rod. Also they use it to store them. We came up with our own product to manage that called the RIG Jacket.

They go great with Orange and Yellow rods. Especially enjoy seeing them being thrown at lake Fork these days. You are even allowed to round your 9lb fish to 10 pounds if you have one tied on as previously posted above.

Have not used one. Sounds like another decent option based on lake and conditions, probably here to stay. Looks to be a good choice in clearer water around bait fish when bass are in feeding mode- but idk.
