My personal preference is War Eagle and my favorite War Eagle is the 5/16 oz Finesse. It is absolutely a fish catching bait. They are also one of the only spinner baits you can find in copper, which gets more flash on overcast days than either gold or silver. I like the fish catching ability of War Eagles but I hate their durability. They seem to break where the wire meets the head after just a few good fish. I have had this happen once, but I actually think I helped in the cause by banging it around on docks all day. I just keep a better eye on it now, but I have caught limits off these baits and not had a single problem.

I contacted War Eagle with a complaint/suggestion and was basically belittled by Keith at War Eagle.
I have went to Stanley and started making a few of my own now. Had the same experience with durability of War Eagles. They sure hook fish but break too often. Once in a while I could understand, I couldn't understand twice in two days same break point both times with bass that burried up...my experience. Glad you posted the info as I don't believe most folks would call to offer constructive critisism unless they truly liked the product to begin with. Like you I switched to Stanley. Until further notice, I'm happy with Stanley VibraShafts in the color above.

ive had those issues with some that have already caught alot of fish. Well I'll admit the picture above is of a War Eagle that had done its job well in the past, but I wouldn't have been using it if the new one hadn't busted apart the day before in the same way.

the vibra shafts have an issue with the end of the tapered wire coming undone and releasing the blades and allowing your knot to slip off. part of why they work well but its the downfall of the tapering wire.

I have never had one break like you showed in that picture. Mine broke at the head of the spinner bait. But like I said, I had been throwing it around docks all day long, and even though I would like to think I am a pretty good caster, I am not good enough not to bounce it off a few posts during the day. I had bent the wire several times to straighten it back out. I imagine that played the biggest role in the break. And that is the only one I ever had an issue with at all...

Don't forget the old standby H&H. Just don't forget to put the hook on.

The Santone Got 5 is a good looking spinner bait. I bought a couple but haven't used them anywhere but other than my ponds. I just have a lot of confidence throwing that War Eagle.
Also, if you can find them, the Rick Clunn Tricksters are really good. I like the blades. Gives a unique presentation.
H&H and a Beetle Spin should be standard fare for any tackle box.
