So... I'm preparing myself and my gear for the spawning run up the creeks that usually starts by the end of February. Main problem I see is lack of current and running water in many of our DFW creeks, depending on the lake/creek. some usual hotspots are so low fish wouldn't be able to get past shallow spots between deeper holes. Many creeks have zero current. compared to last year and years past, the creeks and lake levels for this time of year are not where they need to be.
Fish do what they gotta do when the water gets warm enough, regardless of whether conditions are ideal. . My question is if we do not get another good deluge in February to get water and currents in the creeks, what do these fish do? I know that some lakes they spawn on the lake, but where should they be targeted?
Shallows? Rocks? Channels in the lake? South ends of lakes that are generally more agitated?
Just trying to prepare myself for the fact that we may have to change tactics if we continue to just get little showers and no good turd-floaters.

Wind blown shorelines and points in three feet or less of water. At least that is where I would start. I am sure that someone else will chime in. I personally think that a certain amount of whites spawn in the lake every year and do not go up the creek.

They go to coves also? Wind blown bar, prefer hard bottom.

Yes, they'll spawn on windy banks, preferably sandy banks.

Rocks and at power plants that have running water. They will spawn up in the cattails too. Saw them doing that at Hubbard. But if there is 3 inches of water in the mouth of the creek, they will be there.

If wave action is all they have then that is where they spawn. The eggs need 24-48 hours of highly oxygenated (flowing) water to be viable and then good levels of whatever they eat for the first few weeks. It just so happens flowing rivers and creeks offer the best combination of the two things whitebass need.

Don't think that low water will prevent them from running. Last spring, standing in knee deep water, casting to a deep pool upstream, literally hundreds of sandies came shooting up to the pools, through water that was in the 2-3 inch range! It was phenomenal! They literally lay on their sides, rapidly fanning the tail and fins to push themselves through the shoal, and once they hit deeper water, straightened out and swam swiftly to the pools! Our jigs and rooster tails were waiting on them in the pools, and they obliged us to limit out!

Nature ALWAYS finds a way!
