I've caught them consistently over past years when the water levels were more consistent, up near the first set of rapids upriver near the "big House," and as early as mid February.
Usually late Feb, March, and April is when the whites are up river as a rule. With the last few years with the water levels being low the spawn has been spotty and hit and miss.

I have caught a few whites up river as far as Rebecca Creek slow trolling gaudy deep running crank baits - the last two Fridays. So it may be starting a little early after a "no start" last year.

there hasn't been much of a river run the last few yeas....well, nothing like it was 5+ years ago.

the last few years many have been schooling/spawning in the back of coves midlake on shallow flats.

No river flow. You will have to go with the flow.As Hendo
say, they will stay close to the lake. There will be a lot
of fish in the river between the lake and the rapids.Look for bait and the fish will be there.

Staging in deep water @ mouth of river now. If we don't get a good rain, just hit the main lake points in 20-40 feet of water. I caught a 15" white yesterday at the marina closest to the damn.

Been catching some in potters cove. They are thick in their, just extremely soft bite. Everyone seems to be catching a consistant 2-6 when they go up river. Nothing to speak of yet. If weather stays warm, we will head up river in a week or so. We did great in the rapids last year. Easy limits.

Rattle traps and crank baits work when trolling. When casting, we use roadrunners or little tails on a lead head.

You just about named them all!

I say just about because if there are any old timers still around that remember a popular lure that was used back in the 60's and 70's that was called a "Phanthom lure" and it was made by hand locally. We used to tear up those whites trolling that lure.

Can't believe I found this link! Note to self, Google is you're friend!
Disclaimer: I have no ties to this manufacturer, only that this was once THE lure to use on Canyon lake many moons ago and it worked!

When yall are trolling, how deep are you running your lures?

I've fished at the rapids the last few years with a little success. Last year was pitiful though.

Funny. When I see the hand-made part I think of duck dynasty for fishing.
