Greetings fellow anglers!
I'll be visiting Dallas late this March for the first with my family. I LOVE bass fishing but I'm mainly a shore fisherman. So down here, I typically fish city parks, ponds and other non-water craft bodies of water. I really want to bring my gear down with me to spend a day on the hunt for LMB but I haven't the slightest clue where to fish. Any suggestions? I kinda toyed with the idea of hiring a guide but for me, it feels more special and rewarding knowing that I was able to catch fish through my own ability to track fish.
Anyways, we'll be staying in downtown Dallas. My question is: Are there any nearby bodies of water with LMB that can be caught from shore?
Thanks in advance!

You "should" get some informative responses soon...in the meantime, maybe send some PMs out to:

Depends on how far you want to go. Close to downtown but small fish : White Rock Lake, I've always done better on the southern half Further out : Grapevine which has some decent bank fishing here https://maps.google.com/maps(let me know if that link doesn't work) I have no experience on the other lakes nearby, maybe someone else can help you with those.

Hey, You'll love texas, the cradle of bass fishing. As you know March generally kicks off the spawn, so you should do well. All your California stuff should work. I came from there about 13 years ago. Cant tell you much about Dallas waters as I live in Keller, but we got water everywhere and most of it has bass. You can go to bank fishing, or ponds and private waters on this forum and get a lot of good info. You can also use google maps to find out how to get there. Good Luck, and have fun !

Thank you everyone for the insightful feedback and info. I can't wait to get down there.
Are all the bodies of water that I see on Google earth in the Dallas area legal to fish? There are tons of bodies of water to fish down here but only 10% is actually fishable. I'll have a rental car but it sounds to me White Rock Lake is definitely a place to scope out since its nearby. A buddy of mine was down in San Antonio last week and said Texans were really cool and friendly people...it seems he was dead on!
Don't worry Mike Keenan (didn't you used to coach the St. Luis Blues?)..LOL!! I'll only be in town for 3 days...just long enough to see my Los Angeles Kings put a beat down on the Stars at the American Airlines Center.
I'll continue to do some research for some local fisheries...but again, THANKS EVERYBODY!
