Heading to corpus this weekend to fish over night from the beach or bank. Don't care if its bay or surf. Any good suggestions on what to catch, where, when, how, and with what? Would rather stay south of corpus, naybe padre island national seashore? New to saltwater, me and some workin buddies just wanna fish. Build a fire, and drink some cold ones! Thanks

What? Reds, Drum, specks, flounder when? if you can time your trip just right, the best time is right after a front moves through. How? just like you would on the lake, just make sure to rinse you gear thoroughly when done. where? I would say start out along the JFK causeway, you can park right up to the water, just past the two bait stands. Also try packery channel park, me and my buddies always use to hang out there, it's great for building a fire, and just sitting around fishing. As far as bait is concerned, dead shrimp will work, also finger mullet, and cut bait. Good Luck!

I prefer the bay sometimes, but you can definitely fish gulf side. Just drive about a mile south of bob hall pier into kleberg county, there is a long stretch of beach that goes on for a few miles. You can fish and camp all along that stretch of beach.

Remember to purchase a beach parking pass. Some places are free, but a lot are not. If you get caught, I believe the fine is $165.
You can purchase a yearly pass for $12 at most convenience stores.
If you go into the National Seashore, that is another fee.

Parking passes are only required in Corpus Christi city limits. There is a stretch of beach past the kleberg sign that is still corpus christi. If you go about 2 miles past the kleberg county line, you don't need to buy a pass. I think it's past marker 252. Just make sure you're out of the city limits.

10-4 Will do. Went and scoped it out yesterday. Talked to a guy fishing about 2 miles past where the pavement ends. He caught a Whiting, had only been there 30 minutes. He was saying saturday and sunday should be good, because of the front passing through. Looks like a real nice area. I was told by another to go a couple of miles past the "4 x 4 only" sign and it would be even better fishing. I don't really understand that, bein the beach looks like the beach to me. I guess there is more under that water, than I thought.

Yeah that 4x4 area is known as big shell, it connects to PINS. I don't think the fishing will be any better or worse down there, I've seen people catch fish everywhere along the beach. If you're there long enough, you'll catch something.

If your gonna go 4x4 at pins, got to the ship wreckage around the 40 mile marker.

if you have 4x4 fish the back side, you know the bay side, you can cross back at the mile marker 20 if i remember, i never miss on trout or drum watch the tracks dont play around in the soft stuff, some places you may have to walk and wade, but lots of fish good luck, yarburo pass will get you back ask the old salts

Went last saturday night, went barely past the 4x4 sign. Inexperience told me not to venture to far with the party I had tagging along. We did catch a bunch of catfish, think they were hard heads. caught a couple of whiting, and a pompono. I had an app on my iphone to help id the fish(imagine that). Had a good time for a bunch of newbies. I thought we did well, for a bunch of guys without a clue. I am sure to go again, before I leave the area. I would like to catch something besides catfish, I can catch plenty of those in Lake Whitney! LOL. Keep shootin me some suggestions. Maybe some rigging and fishing suggestions? We were using surf rods with spider weights, circle hooks, and double drop leaders. dont know if this was right, but it's what I picked up at academy. Dead shrimp for bait, then some cut up catfish. Didn't catch nothing on the catfish..

Oh, and we are going with a guide on sunday the 10th. Fishing in the bay. I'm gonna juice him for all the knowledge, he'll give out.

You know, I don't think I've ever used catfish as cut bait. With your rig, you can use mullet for bait, live or dead, live is better if you can catch some. Bigger bait will attract bigger fish. When in the surf, I usually wade in the shallow surf with a small rig fishing for smaller fish, you can also use a cast net. If I catch something that can be used whole for bait, I will put it on my surf rig and just chuck it out there. To bait a live mullet, just hook it about a 1/4 from the end of the tail, you want to make sure it stays on the hook when you cast. Hope this helps.

Sorry it took so long to reply. Yes, you can see the top of the wreckage. If you purchase a map the map will say Boiler at wreckage site.
