I have a Skeeter 200 ZX with a 200 Merc on it. The boat plate says it is rated for that motor size.

If I were to install a 225 HP Merc on it and have the transom beefed up by a certified boat shop will this be accepted by tournament directors if it were questioned?

The 200 doesn't have the hole shot with two guys, two live wells and fuel tanks full.

I have been wondering the same thing! I have a older 487VS Ranger that is 20'6" with a 200 up Mecuary. I would also like to put a 225 on myself but I don't know if it is legal or not???

No. Change your prop for a better hole shot while loaded.

Most tournaments and insurance comps require the max HP on plate be observed .....it's not "illegal "........but is against the rules

That being said.....most mercs can be modified to exceed stock HP......then you have a way around the rules

I have a ZX200 with a merc 225efi mounted on a 6in setback jackplate and I don't have any problems. Top end speed loaded with two guys has gps at 74mph. From a legal standpoint game warden could give you a ticket if he wanted to be a dick about it, I've been stopped and checked several times and they've never even mentioned it. With the size and setup of the ZX200 that motor fits and size's up with this 19'8 boat very well. As far as fishing tourny's I've fished several and never been an issue but there again it could be depending on the tourny director. If you like I could send you a pic of mine.

I am not aware of any Texas law that precluded you from exceeding HP max on coast guard plate

It is against most tournaments rules

Before I decided go with a new 225efi I had a stock 200efi modified and tweaked, dyno tested it was putting 265hp to the prop and sounded like a yamaha dirt bike. Man I loved that motor, don't know for sure what the top end was, did'nt have gps then speedo said low 80's but not sure, she was greased lightning. Back then I coul'nt keep my foot out of her and after scoring a couple of pistons spending 6k, I decided to get something with a warranty.

The transome is the same on a zx200 and a zx225, that's got nothing to do with the horsepower rating.

Put a different prop on it , over rated motors can't be insured usually and are illegal for any decent tourney trail.

No you can't in most tournaments. Two reasons are that most tournaments spell it out in the rules and second is that it is illegal to modify any motor made after 1998 per EPA.

Engine height 3" below pad at a minimum ? or Drop down to a lower pitch prop, don't know if your running a 4 or 3 blade, I have always run a four blade with success, currently running a Trophy II 27P, But it has been worked and BP'd when fishing tournaments. I have a couple other bravos and choppers when I wanna go fast peep

I have a small mountain of props I need to get rid of. I'm about to go from a 150 direct injection to a 225 ProMax.

I'm going to regret it I know.......

If you are fishing media, blt or any of the bigger team trails you are breaking the rules. Either you haven't had a polygraph yet or you can pass one while breaking rules.

Retirement best job ever.
