So I just got a Penn 8000 fierce reel and I am wanting to get a new surf rod but there are just so many choices, I was think about the penn prevail 12ft spinning which is 99 bucks or the Penn torque which I can get for 120 for 12ft spinning which is prob a better option since it seems to have better guides however there are some others that look good like the fin-nor sportfisher it only goes up to 11ft but anyways I was wanting some suggestions on other brands etc my budget would be no more then 150 I would prefer 100 but I know sometime a couple extra bucks makes a difference

I love my shakespeare ugly stiks. I have a 12' and a 10 '. Tough and light. And I got mine on amazon for about 60 bucks each. They have never let me down. S far they have handled 4 foot sharks without the trace of a problem.

I like to throw a 6 ounces plus bait and I would like to get it out as far as possible in hopes that I can get into deeper water from the surf

My friend just purchased the 12ft Penn Prevail surf rod for his Penn Conquer 8000, and that combo is very capable with that weight range. With a 4-6oz spider weight and some bait you will be able to cast that setup over 100 yards if you really sling it. Plus the prevail is a great looking rod.

I have a 12' Ugly Stik. I have a Penn 8000 Battle spooled with 40# braid and it throws well. It is bulky to throw when in waist or deeper water. It tosses well off a pier or some shallow surf. I have fished it about 6 months but all the big fish keep hitting my lighter rods. It should hold up well to a big fish. You can get them at WalMart for around $50-60.

I've used Ocean Master and American Rodsmith surf rods for years. Great rods for bullreds, BU's and sharks up to 6'.

1 Breakaway 2 StCroix Mojo Surf 3 Ugly Stick
Ugly stick works just as good as the others, 10-12' best 15 is too long.

Why is a 15' rod too long?
God loves you just as much as anybody else!!
Jesus offered His life as a gift for you. Please accept it!
