I had some time to kill today so I ran to the local lake to do some "crappie scouting" what I found was a drop off that goes from 6 feet to 30 feet in probably 30 yards. Is this the type of structure that I should be looking for, or am I looking for something more steep and maybe not even as deep. Thanks for your help and I look forward to your input.

That seems more like a slope or a gradual change in depth to me.Now if you had said in 3 yards that would seem wore of a drop off. When I thing drop off I think of sheer or sudden depth changes. Here is how it was explained to me. Let`s remove the water and place a round object at the 6ft. depth and release it.Does it roll down to a 30ft depth or does it roll a few ft. then drop out of sight? The latter would be the case. That`s just my 0.2 I am sure you will get other opinions.

Agreed, that is a slope not a drop off.

and "sharp" drop offs are what you need to look for ....
submerged creek channels typically

First off...welcome! I fish a spot that is exactly like you described, only difference is, it has a huge willow tree on it in 15 fow....it is one of my most productive spots...but having said that....there was no fish there previously....it is a point that the fish pass by and there was nothing there to hold them...depending on the location and layout of your slope, dropping brush may not have the same effect...I did it because I knew fish HAD to pass this point because of the narrow neck to get from a-b....the drop offs I normally do best on are like stated above....SHEER drop offs...creek channels in particular...good luck!
