Hello all - I am new to Texas. I've recently relocated from Liberty, Missouri to Texarkana to work for Texas A & M Texarkana. Used to mostly fish Truman in Missouri but also Lake of the Ozarks on occasion and Mozingo (which is a little city lake in Maryville, MO).
I've been to Lake of the Pines twice in the three months I've been down here and done fairly well - maybe not as many as some of you experts on here but the ones I did catch were really nice.
Of course I drive right by Wright Pattman to get to Lake of the Pines from Texarkana so I'd like to get to know it. Would anyone be willing to offer any advice on where and how to try it for crappie this time of year?
Another question for a little later in the year -and I'm sure there will be a lot of opinions on this - I'm taking a few days off the last week of March and my oldest son is coming down to fish with me. What would be the best place to go that week (for crappie) say within three hours or so of Texarkana?
Thanks much.

If I were you I'd hire Guide Chuck Rollins to show you the ropes on Pines (especially this time of year) then go out there and duplicate the patterns yourself. You know the deal... Give a man a fish, teach a man to fish. The price is well worth it long term and greatly shortens the time it takes to be able to consistently catch fish on your own in a new place.
I don't live for the thump, but I sure do like it.

Spend a little more time on LOP. Crappie fishing don't get any better, once you get the lake, and depths figured out. March should having crappie moving up. Should start getting good about then.

Welcome to TXK, TX. You are in the heart of Crappie fishing country. There are numerous lakes within driving distance of TXK. I fish Wright Patman, and it is A+ on spawning crappie in late march.
"One-3Lb-er" PB= 3Lb 4 OZ Texarkana, TX Fish in Texas=Wright Patman, Lake of Pines, Caddo: Arkansas=Millwood, Greeson, Dierks, White Oak: Oklahoma=Pine Creek, Hugo.

Welcome to Texas Libertyfisher and just so you will know, being in Texas is kinda like being pregnant either you "is" or you "ain't". LOP is super hot right now but just a little later Patman will be hot if the water does't go crazy on us. In March it should be very good.
set that hook!

End of March outta be HOT most anywhere in NE Texas. From TXK West & South you have WP & Pines of course but a little farther down the road is Cypress Springs/Bob Sandlin, Murval, Caddo, Fork, the Wood Co. lakes, Winnsboro, Hawkins, Holbrook & Quitman (all 4 are have crappie populations). Then a bit farther there's Tawakoni, Palestine, Cedar Creek & Richland Chambers. Then at about the outer edge of your "3 hour tour" (sounds like Gilligan, LOL) would be Toledo Bend & Sam Rayburn. Pick any one of these and you should be able to do some good in late March. Keep your eye on this forum as that time gets closer and you'll start seeing where the REAL HOT SPOTS are. Glad to have you among us.

Welcome, ShowMe! As everyone stated above, you can't go wrong here in TX, LA or AR towards the end of March. So many lakes, so little time! If you are even thinking about a guided trip, call bigcrappie.com and Chuck Rawlins can show you how we do it on either Pines or Cedar Creek Lake! And I'd book a trip NOW for the week your son is going to be down here fishing with you, I promise that will be a memory he'll be looking back on when he is my age!!!! (that's a long time from now).
