Chili powder works great, at least here in Texas. Carp like spicy and anything containing capsaicin (the active ingredient in all hot peppers) will work. Chili powder is just the cheapest and easiest to come by.

also method mix and pack bait are not the same, a method mix is made to stay out longer and break down slower, while a pack bait is designed to break faster. i know its confusing but once you learn its not bad at all.
a simple method mix is 1 large can of old fashiond oats, 1 can quick grits 2 cans cream corn 3/4 can of water add whatever flavoring you want, i like a hole bottle of chilli powder.
let sit for 5-10 minutes untill sticky but not to wet. then mold it around a weight nice and firm and let it fly.
Could you add corn to this mix as well? Whole or cream?

I have been using this recipe without the grits and water. Do Carp like grits with there oatmeal? Or is there another purpose for the grits. The Oatmeal and cream corn alone binds really well.Always open to new ideas.

the grits are a breaker, amounts depend on temperature, if humid out less grits are required, just using oats works well but will break down slower, just a preference thing.

I'm curious to know more about the chili powder/Capsaicin attraction. Does anyone know why carp are attracted to it?
This is pure speculation on my part, but is part of it that carp are pretty darn intelligent and naturally curious about anything that stands out from the normal background of tastes and smells in their environment? If so I would imagine that they can sense the Capsaicin in very small amounts.
Also, here's the only recipe I've ever used as someone only a year into this. However, I have always had fish show up even if I didn't manage to land one. I've tried this on Benbrook and the Trinity around Fort Worth
1 Large Container Old Fashioned Oats 1 Can Creamed Corn 1 Can Sweet Corn 2 Capfulls K1 Banana Tigernut Flavoring
Range Cubes work well for chumming an area over a couple of days or weeks for fly-fishing too.

I'm not sure why they are initially attracted to it but I suspect once they get a bite it has a drug like effect on them and makes them go nuts.It quickly turns them into junkies.I've never really used large amounts of it like others.I sometimes use as little as a couple of teaspoons of chilli powder in a large can of oatmeal mix.I backed off from a few tablespoons when one started breakdancing across the water, did a complete headspin. There is many here who have much more experience with chilli powder than myself.
