Im new to texas and want to take my jeep and I down to galveston for a weekend and camp somewere on a beach. Looking to do some fishing while down their. Any suggestions would be great. Dont really want to stay at a camp ground though...prefer to be out away from civilization and enjoying the surf and fishing.

Im from California and driving on the beach is punishable by death their, ok maybe not death but certainly a very expensive ticket at the least. Thanks for the info.

Here is alot of info on PINS or Padre Island National Seashore, I haven't gone there often, but would like too. Alot of history (Indians, Pirates, Ghosts, Explorers, ship wrecks), fishing, camping etc etc. If you google it you will find all kinds of other info, fishing reports, weather, tides, driving conditions etc etc. Let us know if you go how things go, if you liked it, caught any fish etc etc. http://www.nps.gov/pais/index.htm

Its almost impossible to find any privacy at Galveston unless its during a big cold front. Try Sargent beach. I think you can camp there, fishing is good and its semi isolated. Or drive down to Matagorda. You need a beach pass at Matagorda but its only $10 for the full year. They are sold all over town.

Camp and surf fish off Bolivar Peninsula. High Island area. Great fishing for bullreds and big black drums. Just camp anywhere east of Crystal Beach.
FYI, if your going to camp/drive on the beach, make sure you have a beach permit. $8-$10 (full year) depending on what county your in. Sold at some local beach gas/convenience stores.

went just past the 4x4 sign last saturday night. We caught a bunch of catfish? I think they were hardheads. Caught one Pompano, and 3 whiting. All on shrimp. We tried using catfish for cutbait, nothing liked it. I think we did ok, for a bunch of newbies. We are going back down there before we leave the area.
